This. it was stupid and unrealistic.

Blame the source material. Same thing happens in the books.

Agree on Witcher quality. Almost through first season, and it’s pretty bad. I know people in this board are fans, but I get strong R-rated Hercules/Xena vibes from its episodic nature. I know it’s the nature of the Witcher, but his interactions and relationships with people are just bizarrely inconsistent and make very little sense.

The Expanse may not have the chest thumping masculine bravado that so many on this board thrive on, but it’s a vastly superior show.

Finally got caught up last night. This season is infinitely better than last season. I still don't like what they've done with Naomi or that Alex is no longer there. Looking forward to the big climax. Hope it delivers.

It didn't come off that poorly in the book.

Holden is a pretty infuriating character, but everything he does he thinks he has good reason for. He's kinda Jon Snowish.

I'll make a case for the believability of Holden's actions, thematically:

Holden is the conscience of the ship (and in some ways of humanity). It's the reason he's able to attract people to him who are loyal and will die for him (the crew). It's also the reason that others fine him so incredibly frustrating, especially if they're pragmatists (Crisjean).

The fact that he won't just kill Marko and Philippe is completely in line with his character. It's frustrating as hell, yes, because as readers/viewers we're all pragmatists (plus, we've been narratively manipulated to dislike these people immensely). That being said, it is 100% who Holden is.

Amos isn't going to "space" Holden as a result of his actions, because Amos is loyal to Holden because Holden is his conscience. He's the thing that makes Amos, in his own eyes, redeemable and worthwhile. It's also why Amos wants Peaches on the ship. Holden is also redeeming Peaches. Holden is, in many ways, a messianic/Christlike figure in his ability to take those who are deeply flawed and turn them into better versions of themselves.

So... yes... I hear you. it sucks that Holden disarmed the missle... but it's who he is, in the books and in the show.

Naomi is a fricking tragedy, and it is 100% on the actress. I've listened to interviews with her. Super liberal, treats identity politics like religion.

She was a strong, smart, sexy character in the books. Only character that I really have a problem with.

The finale must be absolutely packed to get through what they have left to get through book 6. It is gonna be a helluva ride.

I see they tried hard to make Filip sympathetic this episode by pairing him with that other belter. But his resting bitch face still screams death and deserved misery.

There has been precious little action this season and that’s been disappointing. I want Amos and Bobbie to cut lose.

this show is dumb as hell now. Witcher is way better. Y'all are crazy. And this was my favorite show before they destroyed it last season.

Yea. Having the final 2 seasons focus on Naomi’s stupid family drama was a bad decision.

I still enjoy it, but I’m not a reader.

A common theme in these threads where shows are based on books is the readers trashing the show because it doesn’t live up to the expectations they formed in their minds when reading.

But I say frick those nerds!

I was just mentioning how odd it was for someone to criticize the show for following the books very closely. The show didn't just come up with this out of thin air.

I haven't read the books. I didn't read GoT or WoT either.

If there's a storyline that you don't like, I think it's fair to criticize it, whether it's faithful to the book or not.

I liked The Expanse, but really got sick of Naomi's family storyline. Felt like it derailed what was seeming to be building to a great climax regarding the Ring. The past two seasons have focused on that and the Belters, while all the mystery of the Ring and what is going on with that has petered out; if Holden hadn't mentioned it I would have forgotten it all by now. If that's the direction the books take, then I doubt I will pick them up anytime soon.

No. And that’s irrelevant. If this was featured this heavily, they made the wrong decisions. But I’ve also read they’ve fricked out the character of Naomi from the books anyway.

Naomi’s family plot should have been cut. It doesn’t work.
