I just can’t get past how freaking easy it was to kill the manhunter. These things wiped out whole civilizations a lot more advanced than earth, yet it only took one regular rifle bullet to take it out? And I realize that they said that by taking the form of a human meant it could be killed like a human, but that just seems like lazy writing to me.

Yep, another solid episode but that was very anticlimactic

A couple things they toss in-
Zoe talking to the boy, before the showdown. It was important to protect him, she said 'remember what I taught you', he would now be an adult in 2026.
The conversation with Anton, attempting to convince him that Macon was the Manhunter. What was the last thing I said... monster.
The Guardian herself was using John's parents to turn John into what they did... turning the child?
If the Manhunters were "seeding" the world, so that the child would actually be the one to destroy it... that would certainly make Anton think she's a monster on many levels. Ultimate betrayal of love etc.
And the Manhunter was "programmed", meaning ... they do what they do, because of their programming. Programming done by the Guardians.
Kind of a TL,DR version of saying I think the Manhunter might have already done what it needs to do, and the real threat now is the kid, all grown up in 2026.
Still think Hal's not really dead. I think that was a decoy, maybe a meat puppet with the stored power ring consciousness in it. I think that might have been what Hal was doing, shaving a piece of the ring off and initiating some "protocol". That sliver of ring might be enough to keep the decoy up and running after losing the ring. There was definitely some purpose behind shaving a piece off, so that's my take.

After thinking some on this;
Hal's playing a game and John is in on it, to some extent. There are scenes we haven't seen, or else Hal and John read each other perfectly.
The fight scene in the motel tipped me off. Hal could have ended that in a heartbeat, but chose to let his arse get kicked. You might say no, John's bigger, younger and stronger. Doesn't matter. Hal's ring said critical low, but it wasn't empty- he had the juice to block the satellite death laser, in the middle of the fight. That meant he could have blown John across the parking lot at any point, then said the oath (took him less than 2 secs earlier to do that) and recharged, and game over.
But why? Well, I think we're replaying the first couple episodes. John's "yes sir" sounds like "frick you" first time, now it's legit frick you. I think Hal's doing the same thing, causing trouble and getting his arse whipped so he can get arrested and question the prisoner; this time it's the Guardian bringing him in and Sinestro is his goal. The Guardian asked if he was dead, and since he's not and John doesn't have the ring, they have to do something to keep Hal from just reclaiming it as rightful GL for the sector.
Not real sure about the decoy, maybe the hologram gets with John once Hal is taken to Oa. We've established that they had the tech to make a body- they fixed John up perfectly, and apparently got the sheriff a new finger (and I guess the Manhunter a new hand?), maybe just implant the shards into the body's heart. They need Hal's DNA, well the sheriff may still have that bullet, so she's in on it? That could explain why she calls John in when "Hal" gets shot in the stands 10 yrs later.
That also explains Guy getting the ring in the meantime, but opens the door for both Hal and John to eventually get theirs too (end of the show, when they finish dealing with the rogue Guardian). That Guardian btw sure acts like a Manhunter, seducing it's intended targets. John's temptation was the ring, and it played off the same weaknesses that the Manhunter gave that speech about.

FYI...if you're trying to avoid spoilers, avoid Twitter right now. There's a picture going around that's a big spoiler.. it appears that HBO really screwed up with Spanish subtitles in some countries

Come at me all you want with the “ but you didn’t see it!“, But tell me where I’m wrong. Tell me this didn’t happen.
God how can you be so stupid. You could be 100% right (you're not) or 100% wrong (you're not) but no one is ever going to respect your opinion on something you haven't seen. It's that simple.
If you had come in the thread asking about the show, maybe someone would have some respect for that. But instead you come in trying to tell people they are wrong about a show they have watched and you haven't and trying to convince people it's bad. people that watch the show can decide for themselves whether it's good or not, you not watching the show is not going to convince anybody.
You have all these "facts" that you think are gotcha points but you sound dumb because you don't know the context of any of it or how it's portrayed because, again, you didn't watch the show.

I’ll gladly be called dumb if I’m presenting the facts.
I’ve explained this plenty of times over on what i watch, what I don’t & why.
Fuss all you want. I’m not changing nor will I stop speaking out against these woke entitled tourists who openly admit to using these IPs as a means of promoting agenda over story telling or honoring the source material.

What’s funny is him saying you’d be respected if you only watched which is a load of bollocks. There’s only one reason his kind respects anything.

You're not. And you don't know this because you're not watching the show. So yea, I'm sure people will keep calling you dumb.

All of that is fine. I hated on the woke episode and writer bad. it was awful. But some of the other stuff you are calling out was not woke stuff and you were wrong about it. Because you didn't watch the show.
Posted on 9/14/26 at 9:50 am to iwyLSUiwy
Then cite where I was wrong. I’m not calling everything that’s badly written woke, some of is just retarded. Like using a freaking crowbar to pry off a plastic grill of a car to check if a metal detector is on or not…… Tell me that didn’t happen.
And what is DC‘s fetish with showing naked people? I know it’s HBO and everything but you don’t have to show a man’s junk gratuitously. It was just weird. Even if they are self-aware of it in the show and say something, how did it help the story?

For starters here...
quote:
Dad Stewart was indeed not worthy, and yet the show constantly tries to tell us that Hal stole something from him. He appropriated what should have rightfully belonged to a black man, but because of imaginary privilege… It wasn’t his to steal from in the first place . The ring did not choose him. Even Hal himself apologizes! WTF is even this show?
The show is not constantly trying to tell us this. In one episode John's mom is trying to tell us this. Every single person who has watched this show knows Johns mom is the absolute worst. She is horrible and her white privilege opinion is clearly wrong. They've already dispelled Johns moms retarded arse opinion by telling us that Hal's family had things to be feared. Hal clearly overcame them. I'm sure you will ignore this portion of the post those and continue to rant about that.
quote:
Hal Jordan should be treated like the multiple times planet saving hero he is, and yet this universe seems to treat him like a washed up bum.
Hal Jordan has been treated like a hero throughout his career. We've seen news reports about that. Hal is now grizzled to the role and is a grumpier older man that seems tired of the responsibility. That's just their take on him, it's a cool, unique take. The entire show has been in some tiny Nebraska town, are there just supposed to be Hal Jordan parades every day in this small town controlled by the manhunter?

It's a super hero show, there are going to be dumb scene. Every super hero show/movie in history has had dumb comic scene's especially one ran by James Gunn. If we were to examine every single scene of every show and base the merits of the show off of one comic scene then no show ever would be good. It's literally just a forgettable scene, just like every show has. Not every single thing has to be put under a microscope.

Yea I mean I could certainly do without the dicks, That seems to be an HBO thing. But I think the only dick was the dead guy in one episode. Unless you count a bare arse. Seems like HBO might be trying to make up for all the tits shown and no dicks over the years, I certainly miss the old days of just tits.

The more I think about this episode, the less I like it. This one really showed the problem with trying to ground a show about aliens. Antanns crew doesn't have advanced weapons? They use our guns instead? The Manhunter dying by one gunshot to the head. It just seems pretty weak to me. I also didn't care for the action inside the big smoke cloud. JMHO
Posted on 9/14/26 at 10:27 am to Sam Quint
What’s the deal with the sheriff’s son? I’m guessing he is a Manhunter as well and this will be what leads to Hal’s murder.
Posted on 9/14/26 at 10:27 am to RLDSC FAN
I don’t want to discredit your points about the aliens and manhunter, because you aren’t wrong, but the cloud action took me out more than anything. Kind of felt like Barry Allen was moving Hal inside that cloud.
Also interesting that this felt like a season finale. So I’m wondering where we go from here. I have a few ideas, based off of some things I’ve read and trailer and promo stuff, so read below if you dare:
SPOILERS
Seems like next episode we are back in 2026 trying to solve the Hal murder mystery. Noah is my #1 prime suspect at this point.
Episode 7 is reportedly a Hal flashback episode. They wanted to put it earlier in the season but didn’t want two flashback episodes so close together.
The finale, I have no clue. Looks like present day John and the backup version of Hal? But no idea where they are, why they are there, etc.

Not knowing anything about Green Lantern I think it works ok, maybe because of Chandler, but it's not unique. Wolverine and the Supergirl movie come to mind, there are probably others but I'm not super knowledgeable about comics.
