This must be an age old rule in Hollywood that you must have the cocking sound effect when pointing a gun at someone. Does it take away from the realism?
It's even worse when the same person does it back to back with the same gun. Never dejecting the hammer or the previous bullet in the chamber.

I’m watching Rogue One and I can’t figure out why stormtroopers wearing armor are knocked unconscious by being hit with the blind guy’s wood stick

I am a gun guy. And yes, that drives me nuts. It's so prominent at this point that I just laugh at the stupidity of it all. Always with the racking the slide noise and the cocking the hammer on guns without one. I've seen them have the same guy do it twice in a non cut scene with the same pistol that's never out of the shot. It's an indicator of OH shite NOW WE GETTIN REAL YALL.
Pathetic.
Pathetic.

Massively.
Part of the reason Heat is a good movie is because the firearm usage and effects are pretty realistic. Same with Zero Dark Thirty, 13 hours, BHD, etc.
Hollywood hasn't figured out yet that good gun handling makes a movie dramatically better when gunfights are a big part of it.

On par with small jungle teddy bears using wooden arrows, spears and rocks to defeat far superior space age level tech military.
With lasers.
With lasers.

I watched one movie can’t remember which but the guy racked the slide of a tactical shotgun 5 times without shooting.
I was counting out loud and wife was getting aggravated.
I told he either was empty to start or is for sure now!

I feel like Hollywood does that to unnecessarily emphasize the seriousness of the situation. “Oh, he really wants to shoot me. I should not try to escape.”

Same here. And, the number of shots fired continuously from a revolver may sometimes number 12-15. Drives me nuts.

Do you not have a 15 shot six shooter?

In Antman there was a Glock with a external hammer

Sometimes. In the John Cusack movie, Gross Pointe Blank, he's in the room, someone knocks on the door and he "cocks" a Glock with his thumb.

The blind guy utilizes force hits.

The click sound you hear in movies is the same sound a Colt Single Action Army revolver makes when it is cocked. Just some trivia.

He was one with the force, and the force was with him.

I get irrationally upset when they slam the brakes on vehicles in the snow and you still hear the ‘screech’ of tires.

Also, the trigger discipline is maddening. Finger on the trigger while just hanging out, passing the gun back and forth, or spinning the gun around on the trigger finger.
