When I was a kid, the local movie theater had a summer pass. You got a ticket, popcorn, and a Coke every week during the summer for the matinee.
Midway in sensurround was the best thing I'd ever seen.

The Mask came out the summer I was 10 and I went to see it with my cousin knowing nothing about it. Pretty sure Cameron Diaz on the big screen caused me to enter puberty

Last of the Mohicans, Lakeside Cinemas, with my dad and brother.

Empire Strikes Back
This was mine as well.
But a close second was ET. My aunt took me and my cousin. In the opening scene, an old lady in the row behind us tapped my aunt on the shoulder and she screamed bloody murder.

all time?
Rocky III at the Westwood in Lafayette for a summer matinee in 1982. I was 10, went by myself and was the only customer in the theatre
recently it is either 1917 in IMAX
or
we saw The Hateful 8 at the Regal Edwards in Houston which is an old style movie theatre. The screening was a special offering where they played it on film using a projector

Jaws at the Lowes on Canal Street in NOLA was the first "summer blockbuster" I ever saw and sticks out to this day. Had never waited in line for a movie before and the anticipation made for a much better experience.

Whenever I think of these "good old days" threads, I always reminisce about how different the movie-going experience was in the classic 1970-1990's era. It's never going to be like that again.
Those of us growing up in those eras all had dozens and dozens of good experiences, but I would say my best single one was Poltergeist II. It's not a particularly good film, but it was the first time my friends and I started to have our own fun at the theater by yelling things at the screen. There were a couple of other teenage groups in the theater who got into the act, as well. I just remember how crazy it is when everyone gets into that vibe and basically agrees to have fun regardless of the tripe that was up on the screen! I don't know if anything like that even happens anymore with ticket prices, smaller seating arrangements, and such.

When I was in college at ULM I got REALLY , REALLY stoned out in my jeep in the Monroe mall parking lot before going in solo to see Coraline 3D. That movie was amazing in theaters in its time. I am pretty sure I spent 30 bucks on butterfinger bb’s and peanut m&ms. Good times. That mall theater was 1$ back then.

Doc Savage at the drive in.
Evil Knievel - at the shitty duplex theater in Brookhaven mentioned above.
Decline of Western Civilization - midnight movie at the Varsity, drank Jaggermeister and beer before the show, loaded af, good times.

Probably Independence Day 1996
When July 4th came across the screen the theater spontaneously erupted into patriotic cheers

Independence Day was lit in theaters. One of the first big movie releases I remember well.

“Raiders of the Lost Ark” when I was 15.
We had gone to see “Superman II” but it was sold out. So we decided to go see this Harrison Ford flick a girl I liked had told me about.
3 hours later, I walked out of the theater with my jaw dragging the ground. Greatest movie I’d ever seen…and still one of my favorites.

My mom took me to watch T2 the night it opened at Pecanland Mall in Monroe. I was 9.
ETA: this is an excellent thread to determine how old TD posters are ha.

My mom and siblings were out of town. So me and dad went and watched top gun and then afterwards snuck into dirty dancing and watched it.
I watched Empire Strikes Back at the twin city mall too. Long arse line that wrapped around the building.

For me Star Wars(ANH) as it was the first film I can recall I saw in a theater. Brand new cinema at the Mall and never seen so many people inside in one place. Prior to that we saw movies all the time but it was the drive-in next door to where this cinema was built.
Not as amazing experience as the first time but when Return of the King came out I went with friends at midnight to see the Fellowship and Towers extended edition along with ROTK. Everything ended around noon. Needless to say long time in the theater but was fun.
I will say my 9yo is a Indiana Jones fans so him and I spent the last 3 weeks seeing the first 3 on the big screen for the retro films that have been showing. Cool moment taking him to see something I experienced on the big screen as well not much older than him.
