Has a “Se7en” feel from everything preview we’ve seen.

Which is great because Se7en is phenomenal.

Other than black Jim Gordon, looks amazing.

I'm so tired of the cultural appropriation of white characters.

In this case, it looks less like a "wouldn't it be cool if we had a black Jim Gordon" and more like a "wouldn't it be cool if our Jim Gordon was on caliber with the Gary Oldman Jim Gordon."

I hate intersectional political casting as much as the next guy but come on man, race has no significance to that character.

Right? I have no problem with Jeffrey Wright as Gordon. He's the man.

And I have no problem with Billy Dee as Dent.

Not sure how he'd have done as Two Face, but as the pre-accident handsome and suave Harvey Dent, he was on point.

Of course it does. Have you heard of Batgirl?

I don't think it's an apples to apples comparison. Dent in Batman 1989 wasn't a significant part. Maybe this Jim Gordon won't be a significant role either, but that would be an even worse use of the character.

So you're mad that the race of a character was changed when the race makes absolutely no difference in said character. You're just a racist is what it is. My god.

And Marlon Wayans was original cast as Robin in Batman Returns (originally called Batman II) before that script was torn up. (Wayans even met for an initial costume fitting.)

Allegedly, Wayans received points off of Batman Forever’s gross because his signed and inked contract for Batman II stipulated he would be in Batman III.

Edit: And then Williams received a penalty fee for Two Face being recast in Batman Forever. So at least several million dollars were spent to pay off Williams and Wayans from their contracts for not being in the film.

and the DCEU (or whatever you want to call it at this point) has cast a dark skinned Barbara Gordon....so what is your point?

Doesn't mean the person is racist, like at all, though possibly they could be.

The point is nobody likes having a change of race/sex of an existing character for simple sake of change in an effort to insert political agenda. Even if the person likes Jeffrey Wright and thinks he will nail the role, they can like the actor and outcome while simultaneously disliking the why.

This just furthers his point. Tokenization of characters for tokenization sake is pretty condescending. When you treat the audience and the people that have loved and supported these characters like children, they don't like it. Imagine that.

Why are you automatically assuming “the why” is political?

Why can’t it be just like Billy Dee Williams and Wright just happens to be the best actor the part?
