This just furthers his point. Tokenization of characters for tokenization sake is pretty condescending. When you treat the audience and the people that have loved and supported these characters like children, they don't like it. Imagine that.

Could it be you’re just being paranoid and seeing “tokenization” where it doesn’t exist?

Why can’t it be just like Billy Dee Williams and Wright just happens to be the best actor the part?

Awfully naive of you to look at this movie in a vacuum. You really think it's because the best actor? That's cute you think it's about merit. The creators at dc and marvel have been pretty clear and upfront about what they've been doing the last decade.

So you're mad that the race of a character was changed when the race makes absolutely no difference in said character. You're just a racist is what it is. My god.

And people mentioned they were annoyed that there were all different actors voicing characters in the new ice age movie in threads on this board. Are they also racist, or would they just prefer continuity

Maybe if it happened once sure. It could also be that you're being naive to what's been going on.

If it doesn't make a difference, why did they do it? No other actors capable of playing such a demanding part?

So DC is pushing an agenda with their casting of someone who isn’t even the main character?

Again, if you think it's just about this character then you don't really understand what's been going on.

If it doesn’t matter, then it doesn’t matter. It makes perfect sense for the police commissioner of a major U.S. city to be African American. And regardless of his race, Wright had demonstrated in previous roles a sinewy stoicism that makes him a good candidate for the role of Jim Gordon.

So the people that have a problem with this don't have a problem with a police commissioner of a major U.S. city being African America. I don't know what you aren't getting, but you're clearly trying hard not to understand.

It's all about staying true to the source material instead of race swapping characters in the name of token diversity. Believe it or not, black characters have existed in comics for decades. Even popular ones! This is lazy. You can not care about it, and that's fine. Other people do care and they aren't wrong for having a problem with it.

Gotta love the comic book nerds that tolerate all of this virtue signaling, as long as they get that next movie or tv show.

I didn’t say it was the issue. I was merely saying it makes sense. The state Gotham is located in is never specified, but I doubt it’s in Vermont.

What was your reaction to 5’9” Michael Keaton as Batman?

FWIW, I thought that it was a bad casting decision(without even looking at his height) and still feel that way.

Fair enough. At least you’re consistent.

I still don’t think it’s anything to get in a twist over. He still pulled off the role in an entertaining fashion.

He was better than I expected him to be but it was still hard not to think of it as Mr Mom is now Batman. I really expected Kilmer and Clooney to be better, so that shows what I know.

I could see that if Jeffrey Wright wasn’t a legit actor. But…he is. From everything I’ve seen, they’ve nailed the casting. Matt Reeves isn’t a loon. Dude only cares about making good movies and he’s nailed damn near every single one that he’s directed.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt

I'm sure the movie will be great, but there's no reason to be race-swapping or gender-swapping any Batman characters and there are absolutely white men who could have portrayed Jim Gordon just as well or better.
