So you're mad that the race of a character was changed when the race makes absolutely no difference in said character. You're just a racist is what it is. My god.
The race of Jim Gordon is absolutely important. He's the father of Batgirl, who is not Batgirl if she is not a straight white redhead.

Because society can't have it both ways, for starters. Either "cultural appropriation" is a problem or it isn't.
You don't start doing shite like this right after you've spent the last few years convincing everyone that some white clown with dreadlocks that likes listening to rap music is some big fricking problem and then turn around and change the race/sexuality/gender of every non minority character that you come across.

So DC is pushing an agenda with their casting of someone who isn’t even the main character?
Considering the president of this country is selecting a supreme court justice solely off race and gender, I'm not sure how you even post stuff like this with a straight face
fatkid is dumb for immediately derailing this thread, but you've got your head deep in the sand if you don't see the push to "de-white" a lot of things.

First off, has Matt Reeves of Jeffrey Wright ever made statements themselves about “cultural appropriation” that in this case would indicate some sort of hypocrisy on their part?
Edit: Hollywood isn’t some sort of monolith. Basically the only 2 people who had a decision in Wright be cast are Reeves when he offered the part and Wright when he accepted. If either had made statements in the past about “cultural appropriation”, you’d at least have that much to point out the hypocrisy.
Second, you’d enjoy art and entertainment a lot better if you avoided retaliatory cultural warfare. Just appreciate the fact that Eminem is a great rapper and if Wright is a good Jim Gordon, appreciate that too. Let the culture warriors on the Left and Right be miserable about this sort of stuff.

What was your reaction to 5’9” Michael Keaton as Batman?
Well I'm not sure I could read yet when he was cast. So I'm not sure I cared. This is a dumbass comparison by the way.

This is the exact reason this stuff keeps happening. You get to pretend to be above it all and just let it continue to happen.

Other than black Jim Gordon, looks amazing.
I'm so tired of the cultural appropriation of white characters.
JFC it's a comic book movie that's been rehashed at least 5 times in my lifetime in live-action.
The Poliboard has made this board miserable to read.

Have you considered that maybe the people making these decisions are the ones to blame for the misery you feel reading reactions to their decisions?

Have you considered that I really don't give a frick if a character's race or gender is switched if the acting is quality?
Probably doesn't help your cause that I thoroughly enjoy Jeffrey Wright as an actor.

Good for you. Your opinion isn't universal

Your opinions mean nothing to me since I have no "cause"

That’s unfortunate. Because the sheer meltdown that occurs over these things on this board have started to derail most show and movie threads on here.

I find it more unfortunate that modern day racism is celebrated by half this country while they also claim to not be racist, but here we are.

No one is forcing you to read anything here. I'm sure reddit has some great posts celebrating this big win for the oppressed minorities of this country.

Well if you aren't a life long comic fan sure, but then why do you give a frick what comic fans think? I'm not sure why it bothers you that people who are loyal to the source material are annoyed by this. This isn't a new problem either. I mean I can make a short list of the top of my head of well known redheads that have been black washed. This has nothing to do with the poliboard and everything to do with people who grew up reading these stories wanting them faithfully represented on the screen.
You don't cast a black Jim Gordon by accident. They always planned to get rid of the white redheaded Barbara Gordon.

I’m not even close to the only one on this board that feels this way.
Y’all, ironically, also have the ability to just not watch it when it comes out if it chaps your arse so bad.

They can leave too if reading differing opinions make them feel misery.

Where have I said it chaps my arse so bad I won't watch?

I’ve read comics for a long time.
I’ve also seen several reiterations of Batman (and characters within that DC universe) that didn’t follow the source material to a T. Feigning the “they’re not portraying him/the universe accurately” with any Batman properties at this point seems pretty hilarious given the directions we’ve seen his universe go over the years.

I agree with you if people don't like it don't watch it. That's the only way this stops. That said how the frick do you know people were ok with the other stuff? Are you saying that no one has had any problems with any of the other DC movies or directions previous Batman movies have taken? Don't be a dummy.
Pretty self righteous of you here to get upset with people having different opinions than you on a message board.

You realize that JK Simmons is playing Gordon in the HBO Max Batgirl series with non white Barbara right?

What Batman centric live movie that has come out in the last 20-30 years hasn’t been popular?
You assume that everyone who reads the comics can’t separate the source material from the tons of spins we’ve seen on the Batman universe.

Back at cha. Y’all bitch anytime someone doesn’t melt the frick down over a change.
