I was too, but that rumor goes back damn near 10 years when there was talk the Riddler would be the bad guy in the third Nolan/Bale Batman movie and it would either be Johnny Depp or Tennant.

Rumors are he wanted $10 million for the role. Meanwhile Robert Pattinson is getting $5 million to be Batman. I can see why WB would look elsewhere considering how much they are going to have to spend on all the other villains.

It seems like Reeves is trying to create an entire Batman universe with the entire Rogue's gallery in place, so the role might have been as much as a cameo.

They won’t get all the names on that list but if they can get Fiennes and two other names like Hoult and Driver or Driver and Harris that would be one hell of a cast already even without The Penguin being cast.
