The stamp taxes and such that got the colonists furious were not that burdensome; it was more the principle of their imposition at all.
The taxes were also being raised to pay British soldiers in America to protect Americans. Not like the money was going straight into George's or Parliament's pockets. I'm currently listening to "The last King of America" about George III. Interesting to see his thoughts and the British in general as opposed to what we all learned growing up. He was far from the tyrant our Founding Fathers made him out to be.

He didn’t even really get treated as a tyrant according to the series. They said how most people in the early days of the revolution still supported the monarchy and were upset with parliament.
It wasn’t until the Declaration of Independence that the ire turned towards George III

This is true. But George believed it was parliament's right to levy taxes so the Declaration named the King in it's grievances which is kind of funny considering a tyrant wouldn't be so tied to the constitution as to take away parliament's rights of taxation

Nah bruh, the Founders didn’t know about Ancient Greece. They stole the idea of democracy from the Iroquois’ trove of writings on the subject

This had me grinding my teeth a bit. I was hoping Burns could control himself, but here it is. He couldn't stop woke bullshite from infecting his new work.

I’ve started episode 2. One of the redeeming factors of this documentary so far seems to be historian Rick Atkinson. He’s one of the few interviewed that knows what he’s talking about and not speaking nonsense.
I’ve read his European trilogy and the first book of his American revolution series.

I picked up the first book of his Revolution series at a discount store. I put it on the shelf and forgot about it, but I was really impressed with him. I think I'll start it here soon.

I picked up his first book of the Revolutionary series at Ollie’s and a quick search shows that his second book came out April of this year. I’m going to have to order it.

Episode 5. The Indian land talking points just nonstop. Whole series could have been 3 episodes. Instead we get a cool battle breakdown tucked in between 30 minute woke Indian slave land bullshite.

I'm glad they've got Gordon Wood in there. I've read a couple of his books and listen to him on podcasts whenever I can. He's a huge American Revolution fan and hates how academia has treated our founding fathers since the 60s.
I'm only two episodes in and haven't really noticed anything that I would consider "woke" nonsense.

Just finished episode 3. I really am in love with the in depth battle sequences. This is all new to me. I have read plenty of books about our founding fathers, listened to numerous podcasts about the Revolution and watched a lot of documentaries and YouTubes about the American Revolution, but this is by far the most in depth detailed battlefield accounts I’ve seen.
Having said that, they really are focusing on the war aspect of the war and barely touching on all the non combatant founding fathers so far.
Which I am okay with.
I’m starting to like Christopher Brown’s interjections. I’m going to have to look up some of his stuff.

Burns hit again and again that the majority of the slaves that fought were with the British, and Native Americans were in no way 100% on the side of the patriots.

Because there really isn't much IMO. Some people in here think that simply including in the doc that white people killed indians and took their land is "woke," even though that's what happened in a lot of places. I don't have a problem with "white man bad" type shite in a docuseries if that's actually what happened. It's history, so just tell it even if it's bad.
I've seen some examples of the "woke" complaints in here, and some of them are legit, but that's to be expected to a degree with Burns obviously. But I only have the last episode left to watch and it hasn't struck me as overly woke at all so far.
I agree with the person above that the battle breakdowns are by far the highlight though, and the new maps and shite they used are top notch (which I think I've said earlier in the thread as well). Seeing the attacks and shite unfold on the maps is cool.
Also, I never really knew before how accomplished Benedict Arnold was. I always knew the name being associated with betrayal obviously, but never really read up about him or anything. So that's been cool to see for me, and I've learned a lot about him and just how good he was in the Revolution.

That arc was probably my favorite part of the entire documentary. I didn't know much about him either. All I knew was he changed sides. So, I thought it was leading to him sort of being exonerated for his decision, but it really didn't. He had a lot of success and responsibility in the war, but his treason also earned him moniker as the most famous traitor in American history.
