I did the exact same thing and jumped out of my chair lol. My wife laughed at me. I immediately texted my dad who is a huge history guy and loved that miniseries.

We’ve already gotten to Lexington and concord and they didn’t even mention the Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death speech at St John’s in Richmond (which was attended by Henry, Jefferson, and Washington).
I’m 100% biased because my wife and I were married there AND my parents were as well. It was awesome to see the church record book show their wedding in there alongside ours. We go to service there every time we go to Richmond.
We actually went to the reenactment this year that Ken Burn and his team attended and filmed at. I know a lot of stuff gets cut but I’ll truly be devastated if there’s not even a mention of that moment.

Fifteen years ago we would have discussions of Burns' documentaries here and you might get one disgruntled comment. 99% of the conversation was about the films themselves and not attacks on Burns' bias or political leanings. Now we can't talk about the documentary without the same shite being brought up over and over, as if it's imperative that everyone makes their anti-Burns status known without bothering to add anything new to the discussion..

How do you think liberals would respond to an all white version of 'Motown: The Early Days'

That's an inaccurate comparison - They're gonna bitch and moan no matter what. It's all rayciss to them.

Exactly Burns shows his bias in every single one of his documentaries. He's a political hack and openly admits his support of the DNC.
The funny thing is that while I’ve seen all his docs the only one that pissed me off was the country music one. What he chose to emphasize in that doc was mind boggling.

I’m going to let this breathe and watch one per night like he intended.

I agree. The episodes are dense with information and it's a lot to absorb even in 2 hour increments. My wife was like, "Why are these two hours long? History class at LSU was only an hour and fifteen."

I’m glad this got the long form treatment.
I guess when you focus on one person you don’t need to do 12 hours
But whenever I see something is Ken burns 2 parts I’m just disappointed by default. I want more!!!

Did Patrick Henry really say ‘Give me liberty or give me death’? Maybe not.
Interesting read about Henry's speech, it's not clear whether he ever actually said those words. It seems like nobody even reported he said that phrase until 1817 in a book where there they take one person's take on it.
He definitely gave a speech and it fired people up, but he may not have said the most memorable line from it. It very well could be like the mythology of Bunker Hill, there is no real evidence the colonials were told to hold their fire until they saw the whites of their eyes.

Did you see his baseball documentary? It was awful. He almost completely ignored baseball in the Midwest.
So was his national parks shart show.

I just want to set expectations before anyone gets up in arms: a lot of slaves, freed men and native Americans fought in the revolution, north and south.
That’s an agreed to fact so don’t start thinking he’s getting political if he covers it.

There were northern colonies and southern colonies.
The southern colonies had many more slaves.
Many of those slaves and some freedmen fought for the colonies and some fought for the British because they promised them freedom.

Of course I am well familiar with the economics of the North and the S and the concerns of the southern colonies particularly Georgia because it would make them vulnerable to Spanish invasion but that's not how you meant it and that's not how you presented Freedmen and slaves could include indentured servants
the Native American thing was not north and south but east and West

It seems especially ridiculous since most slaves who were involved in the war fought for the British. Same with most Native Americans.
Not that you can blame them, since the British were the relatively less bad side to the blacks and Native Americans.
But it really is ridiculous to claim that blacks and Native Americans won the American Revolution.
