With Antonio Banderas. Got a lot of bad reviews, but I really like it. Has a Beowolf feel to it.

I really like it but I'm a huge fan of Micheal Crichton so I tend to grade with a curve. shite I own and will defend Timeline even though if you stop two seconds to think it all falls apart.

The movie is one of the more interesting adaptations as it does a decent job of staying close to the book. I guess that should make sense since Crichton took over direction to finish it. The characters are a lot more colorful compared to the book which is a little dry at times. Parts of it feel rushed and it could probably be better served with a long cut. Unfortunately, it came from an era when a movie had better damn well be about 90 minutes to get as many showings as possible.

Yeah, definetly could've been a more epic, longer film, but it's still a kickass watch if it's on cable.

Love the Nordic and Viking baddassery

Love it. A woman I know did stunts for it, which might have been her first movie stunt work ever.

It's definitely one that I will watch whenever it comes on.

I think it’s an enjoyable movie. It goes a little off the rails but still solid fun throughout. And some decent quotes.

quote:

Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: [as Herger offers a mead horn] I can taste neither the fermentation of grape, nor of wheat. [Herger laughs] Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: What? Why do you laugh? Herger the Joyous: [laughing and handing over the bottle] HONEY! It's made from honey!

quote:

Where did you learn our language? I listened!

quote:

What is that?

Olga: Cow urine.

Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: Cow urine?

Olga: Boiled down.

Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: No, no. Don't put that filth on me. Water, clean water.

Olga: As you wish. Tomorrow the pus will run, and you'll have a fever.

[he lets her put it on]

It’s one more of my favorite movies.

I remember seeing the trailer for it and thinking “this movie looks like total garbage” but then a friend of mine rented it after it came out on DVD (back in the days when you went to movie rental stores to rent movies) and we watched it and I loved it.

It is a more realistic telling of Beowulf but is based off the Crichton book “The Eaters of the Dead”.

Me too. A top guilty pleasure. Good acting and the Norse Setting interacting with Banderas’ character was cool.

Bad reviews? That's crazy, I thought it was great. Lots of fun, and it actually has a little more thought put into it than most action films. I thought it did a great job of portraying the "barbaric" Vikings from an outside, more civilized point of view.
Plus, Omar Sharif.

Just goes to show, box office isn't everything.

Love this movie. Banderas still in his prime. The Vikings were all badass and the final battle was great. Seeing “the fireworm” coming down the mountain was cool.

One of my favorite movies in that genre.

R.I.P Buliwyf

====================================
Buliwyf : A man might be thought wealthy if someone were to draw the story of his deeds, that they may be remembered.
Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan : Such a man might be thought wealthy indeed.

Good movie. First time l watched it the scene where the ne'rdowells are on the roof reminded me of my first reading of Beowulf in junior high. Cool moment.
