Really stupid to ban kids from wearing suits to the Minions film. Good on Universal for not joining in on this stupidity.

Dress in drag = cheers and applause
Wear a suit and tie = banned

Makes sense

Literally none of this is remotely correct but honestly that discussion is for another board not here

You’re pulling from the same playbook that people pulled from about radio, TV, etc when they came out.

There are 2 big differences

1. The attempts to mold your brain around the stimuli were in their infancy. Now with the sheer volume + AI learning, these devices literally know exactly how to manipulate your brain at a level beyond consciousness. Your brain truly becomes rewired and how your body responds to dopamine-producing stimulants changes entirely.

2. The sheer mass appeal/communication was previously only available to those on the other side of the screen. Humans did not evolve to perceive themselves as important on this scale, which has, again, warped how our brains process things. Narcissism has become the expectation and not the scary outlier state.

exactly.

Even when I was young and got glued to the SNES, there comes a point where you're forced to detach. You turn the game off and leave the room because you have to go to school or wherever else. And hell even as a young adult in college when I was glued to the internet (shout out to TD 2004 join date) you still had to leave the computer to go to class or work or wherever. You were always forced at some point to step away.

Current youngsters have had a phone since they were old enough to know what one is and there is no longer any detachment. It goes with you to the bathroom, to work, to class, to church, to the store, while sitting at a red light for 10 seconds, etc. It is all consuming.

This is why I stopped taking my kids to the midnight early releases of movies. It became an event party with fewer people showing up because they wanted to see the film. Older kids showing up "ironically" to see a kids or superhero movie.

Good for these kids. If it takes another kick to the groin for Lightyear, I'm all for it.

Here comes grandpa! Ever heard of the Rocky Horror Picture Show? That seemed to generate plenty of behavior like this DECADES before the internet or TikTok.

I mean, it is a midnight showing, that kind of always is an event party and a perfect time for something like that to happen

They're teenagers. Chances are high they're celibate and living with their parents.

Seems like harmless "fun"

That said, why are teens spending time dressing up in suits and paying money to go watch a kids' movie - for the likes?

My question is what do these kids, who can't go 10 minutes without playing Asteroids on their Atari 2600s and also have their serotonin levels dictated by putting their 3 initials on the high score board for the PAC-Man game at the arcade, look like as adults?

I guarantee you, this sentiment has been said over and over and over.
