They are incredibly distracting.

I'm with the dissenters on this season, I'm not really enjoying it. None of the new characters are interesting and the Keely/Roy storyline is awful.

They telegraphed both of those twists tonight.

They’ve been telegraphing the Zelda deal for weeks.

The Mae deal was obvious when they let her on the bus.

Keeley is just an annoying character and her bombshell shtick is tired. She is not a bombshell. She dresses like a lunatic and the actress is far from a knock out.

That said, the season has been enjoyable, and, while there are some eye rolling girl power moments, for the most part they have kept to the human element of soccer, life in general, heartbreak and joy, the ebbs and flows of sport and how it connects with a lifetime.

It remains a feel good, fun, funny show that I look forward to every week

no that someone is Edwin Akufo. He still hates Obisanya and spent 20 million of his own money keepng him off the national team. Rebecca is the reason his "super league" also fell through this is revenge on Richmond.

This would be great. And Zelda’s reasoning for doing it is that she invested all her money in women’s sports and is getting her arse handed to her. Her way out is Okufu giving her $X to frick over Rebecca.

Mae dying came out of left field.

The second they asked Mae to ride with the team, I looked at my wife and said "I bet Mae is dying by the end of this episode"

Could they have picked a more unathletic actress to play Stone (the backup forward)

Can only imagine how many takes it took to have her look as “athletic” as they did in the episode

Looked like a toddler running about

Not sure if we discussed it in this thread, but former Page 3 girl Keeley Hazell (Rupert's 2nd wife Bex), was the IRL inspiration for the Keeley Jones character and she was originally supposed to play her until she was beaten out by Juno Temple in the audition process.

Additionally, she was Sudekis' rebound after breaking up with Olivia Wilde in 2021. They were together for about a year, apparently.

I dont like the Zelda character and I get shes getting older and she was never my cup of tea but Keeley has really gone downhill. The eyebrows were killing me the whole time looking at her.

Agreed on Keeley. I get she's supposed to be over the top. I also enjoy some of her tender moments on the show... but damn... her appearance has become so distracting and unappealing this season (though I am overall thoroughly enjoying this season).

In fairness, Shannon has been around as a peripheral character since the beginning, as she had little interactions with Ted on his way into work (usually at the village green - often before/after getting called a wanker by the older gent).

That said, she's built like a defensive end, to be sure.

They've really wasted that character, giving her no development whatsoever. And I have no problem with the actress, but she's aging like milk. She's still in her 30s and without stage makeup she looks like the crypt keeper.

Some predictions for the finale:

In her will, Mae left the pub to the 3 lads that are always in there.

Roy doesn't extend his contract to become a stay at home dad

Ted steps down to start coaching Henry's team

Beard is appointed the new men's manager.

Alice takes over the women's team, crediting Ted in what will be an emotional scene between the two

Gemma hangs up her cleats, but accepts a position in the front office with the goal of becoming director of football operations for the women's team.

Don't think there will be some finality to Ted, considering they've already been teasing a season 5.

My question is how could Higgins allow Rebecca to give up enough shares to where she could lose control of the club?

This. Really insane plot point once you think about it.

I'm guessing all of Mae's shares and who controls them becomes the pivotal plot point. Or perhaps the single share owned by the 3 blokes in the bar.

Yep and while not worth even going back to figure out but I am almost certain that when it was discussed at the end of season 3 was that they would sell off the shares to a point where Rebecca retained control.

This is absolutely what’s gotten set up.

Didn’t she say she had a “substantial” amount of shares. And then they made a point about their “1” share that they share.

Somehow I bet that between Mae’s shares and the hooligans 1 share + Rebecca’s that will add up to 50.1%.

It was absolutely discussed in season 3.

Because there was talk of selling the team outright, but rebecca wanted to still control it.

Weird season.

Not terrible but weird.

I wish they hadn’t just zoomed out on the conversation Ted had with Henry about his dad. That was maybe the most powerful moment in the whole series when he first talked about it.

I don’t think the audience needed that story again and I can’t imagine it would be as raw. Ted isn’t going to go into that kind of detail with his son like he did with Doc.

I definitely wasn’t expecting Breaking Beard and the Rebecca/Roy impressions were hilarious.

Not a bad slate of guesses, based on the way it played out.

I hate her character especially her voice. Nothing about her is attractive
