Tarantino has described the movie as “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood" (via THR). "The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor...Sharon Tate.”

DiCaprio's casting was officially announced in January, alongside rumblings that Tarantino wanted Margot Robbie to play Sharon Tate and Tom Cruise and Samuel L. Jackson in lead roles.

quote:

“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old," said Tarantino in a statement. "I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

If he gets Robbie and Cruise as rumored (no reason to doubt Jackson won't be a part of it), then that's one hell of a cast.

This is Tarantino's Oscar bait movie. He's made Oscar worthy films in the past but they were all too off kilter to win the big prize he seeks (Best Director). So now he's going for broke with this film. If he hits a home run he may bring home Oscar gold.

I'm thinking this will be like Summer of Sam but in Los Angeles.

I can't believe he's never won an Oscar for directing. It's a fricking crime that Robert Zemekis won it for Forrest Gump over Pulp Fiction.

And just looked it up, and it's fricking ridiculous Woody Allen has been nominated for Best Original Screenplay 16 fricking times. 10 more than the next one. So fricking overrated.

Is it? Robert Zemeckis's direction of Forrest Gump was immaculate. To say it's a crime is a huge overstatement.

Not as big as say "Dances with Wolves" beating "Goodfellas" at the Oscars, but slightly under that.

Sounds legit. QT’s in his element most when he’s writing retro chic L.A. Would love for him to keep it under 2 hrs fifteen mins. Last couple movies, while great, seem to be getting indulgent.

Way too much of an overstatement man. While the screenplay for Pulp Fiction is easily one of the best and most original of the last generation, Tarantino's direction was simply.....solid. He most definitely deserved his nomination but I feel Zemeckis deserved the win.

No. His movies are an experience. I want this film to be pushing 3 hours.

Tarantino’s screen play for pulp fiction is arguably the greatest original screen play in cinema history

Is this going to be like Basterds, where they killed Hitler? Will our heroes kick Manson kids’ asses?

I saw the title and thought it would star Rob Reiner or George R. R. Martin as Harvey Weinstein.
