I'm just here for the downvotes I'll receive by saying Pulp Fiction is one of the most overrated movies in history.

Sorry, but I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying here?

It wasn’t at all uncommon to have “real music” in movies instead of traditional orchestral “scores” before QT.

Even the movie that beat it that year for Best Picture Forrest Gump had an all time great soundtrack full of “real music”.

Without thinking much about it movies like Top Gun, Singles, Breakfast Club, and even the Rocky flicks were all long before QT’s time and used modern real music to score the movies.

Now Tarantino certainly is one of the best filmmakers when it comes to choosing music that become so ingrained in the scenes that they almost become characters. But crediting him with the very technique is overboard for sure.

Again, maybe I’m just not understanding what you meant here

Also, is this the same project that was supposed to include Al Pacino??

Would be interesting to see him as Manson.

Al Pacino is way too old to portray Manson. Manson was in his 30s when this shite was going down. I'm pretty certain they are eying Cruise for that role.

Hmm. Interesting. I was thinking with makeup and beard/hair Pacino could pull it off, but Cruise would be damn interesting. He isn’t in his 30s anymore either of course

Still, is this the same one that Pacino is rumored as being in? Whatever the role may be.

Never seen a movie by this guy that I even remotely liked. I just don't get the appeal.

If you "didn't remotely like" Pulp Fiction or True Romance then you should gouge your eyes out in church like that meth girl and never watch any movies ever again.

WTF? I don’t know what you mean by “real music” There are tons of films before PF that have rock scores.

FTR he didn't direct this. Wrote the script and sold it because he just lost interest in it.

It's a fricking crime that Robert Zemekis won it for Forrest Gump over Pulp Fiction.

Is it? Robert Zemeckis's direction of Forrest Gump was immaculate. To say it's a crime is a huge overstatement.

Zemeckis got to direct prime Tom Hanks. That’s like Torre sending in Mariano Rivera with a lead in game 7 of the World Series. Not discounting the quality of Forrest Gump at all, but managing the storytelling of Pulp Fiction deserved recognition.

Tarantino's rival already made a movie about hippy Hollywood.... And it's an unheralded masterpiece of complexity, incoherence and magnificence....

It was more than just Tom Hanks. Zemeckis directed an epic that spanned a timeline of 30+ years. He masterfully directed a film filled with high production values that blended practical effects together with state-of-the-art CGI and did so rather seamlessly. Plus everyone in this film was directed well. From the iconic performances of Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise, to the more subdued but memorable Sally Field.

Zemeckis did an awesome job and very much deserved the Oscar he was awarded.
