Why are you trying to reason with him? He is a troll. He doesn't mean anything he types out. He is just trying to get a rise out of people

I like when people try to rile me up. I don't take the bait, and then they start with name calling.

I love that. Because then I treat the insult as if it is a point they are making.

Turns the exchange into a cartoon.

Eventually people learn to not engage me that way.

Not wanting to read through 57 pages of Kaiju melting to find what people think of the movie.

What are the general thoughts? I’ve been holding off as the commercials didn’t look great to me but I enjoy the dc universe

For context, I was born in '79 and fell in love with Superman lore from the Donner/Reeve films and further into DC with Burton's Batman films. Read many of the Superman comics of the 80s/90s era. Enjoyed the TV show Smallville as well. Was never really a Marvel guy.

I thought Zach Snyder had some good ideas but failed to understand the motivations of the characters and tried to Batman'ify too many of them. Superman is not meant to be brooding and dark and 'grounded'. He's science fiction fantasy, optimism and hope.

I have seen James Gunn's Superman twice and I really enjoyed it. I loved how he did not re-hash Superman's origin story. It's well known by now. He jumps right into the action and the universe and world building are impressive. Does it veer a little too much into the Gunn schtick a few times? Maybe.

But the casting is spot on for this universe. The musical cues that harken back to John Williams's iconic score are nice but they also bring a new element. The story is very fast paced and a lot to take in the first time you see it. I actually enjoyed it more the second time around when i was able to absorb more.

Definitely worth seeing in the theater and strongly recommend IMAX.

If I am such a troll then counterpoint what I say with your own facts. By all means, have at it.

The excuse of “this Hollywood environment“ is often used as a scapegoat. Even movies closer to Covid era could still could do amazing at the box office. That was my only point.

But in the current box office environment, $400 million after a 2nd weekend is fantastic.

It would be just retarded to argue otherwise.

As a bit of constructive feedback, it makes you sound sour-grapey

It is doing great. You don't have to like it. But reaching for reasons to say it is not doing well is a bad look.

Love and Thunder did great, it fricking sucked.

So you think the movie sucks (even though you haven’t seen it).

You hate that James Gunn injected himself in the movie.

You think it’s a flop.

Ok noted. Anything else? Because we don’t care. At all. Just get it out now.

It has less to do with how much you make than it does how much it takes to break even.

I feel like I missed something. How did James Gunn do this?

James Gunn said he had a hard time figuring out what to do with Superman. So he injected himself into the movie. How exactly? Not sure. But it definitely feels like he put his view of parents in. And I’m sure everywhere else because it feels like his other movies.

People can get mad about it if they want, but this is how directors create passion projects and it shows. It is what is.

Just gonna throw it out there about box office. Has nothing to do with any particular movie you guys are talking about just an FYI fir context. Back in the late 70s through the 80s movies would stay in theaters for a year or more sometimes. That affects box office. Inflation you all know so just to cover bases I’ll mention it. The last thing is 10-12 years ago your opening weekend did not include Thursday which it does now.

He has made no secret about this & has openly said so.

He used his own dog as the model (breed swap) for Krypto.

He projected his own views on flyover country farmers, many of them as he saw it as bumpkins & living in double wides.

The aforementioned “Internet hate“ he received after his very twisted & sick jokes were dug up. He compares this to what Superman goes through with Lex Luther and his keyboard monkeys? Because of course it’s the exact same thing.

There are probably a couple of other examples, but he hasn’t been shy about saying so.
