I have no idea what woke means. Never have. It always seemed like “woke” just meant anything that looked like it tried to be inclusive. Then it went to anything that is social commentary that is against one’s opposing views. But now it seems to be stretched farther to changing origins of super heroes.

It’s irrelevant since nobody has argued this movie is woke. You and I have discussed some of the things I thought the movie got wrong and kaju complained about the Jor-el change to the character yet the same group who always does is lying about what we’ve said.

It's not a lie is based on evidence and post history.
With the operating theory that you are Kaiju.

It is a lie and your reasoning is also a lie as is your assertion that kaju and I have identical posts.
Posted on 7/21/25 at 6:09 pm to Madking
Yeah, I think you’ve gotten an unfair shake in this thread. Your complaints are just more about what you want from Superman. Which is cool. But there have been a lot of people in this thread that have basically been saying the movie is purposely anti-American. As if they represent every American. It’s ridiculous.

That’s kind of what I’m getting at. There’s a group who wants to lump people together regardless of their opinions just because they’ve disagreed in the past. Napoleon for example has alleged that I haven’t seen the movie, I’ve parroted YouTubers and I’ve 100% agreed with Kaju and all are not just false, they’re antithetical to reality. For reference RLDC asked me if he should start a spoiler thread on the 10th, I told him to wait until midnight and that I wouldn’t join until I saw it on Saturday. The YouTubers he’s referencing, though he has no idea who they are, mostly have a different opinion than I do and the last exchange I had with kaju was arguing over the direction of the Jor-El storyline. So the “facts” he claims to be using as support of his argument are a lie. He’s just doing what he’s accusing me of like he and that group have a bad habit of doing.

So you’ve got nothing.
Cool.
Cool.

You had posters saying it’s not political for over a week until they saw me post that it wasn’t political then they did a 180 and said it was political. That should tell you everything about these monkeys.

I was pretty clear. Keep bitching though

Hilarious that you believe you were clear. You said absolutely nothing of substance.

Finally saw it last night and was really disappointed.
For nearly half a century, I have watched and enjoyed all iterations of this character—introduction via Christopher Reeve, Superfriends cartoon, George Reeves ‘50s show, Max Fleischer ‘40s cartoons, Superboy show in the ‘80s, Lois & Clark, Brandon Routh, comics in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and the Snyder films.
I went in with an open mind. There were some parts that I liked, but there were some times when I was ready to bag it and go home.
I’ve enjoyed Gunn’s work in the past—Guardians, Peacemaker, The Suicide Squad, Creature Commandos—but he is not suited for Superman.
The movie didn’t seem like it knew what it wanted to be tonally. I don’t understand the choice to make his parents borderline Forrest Gump slow, and there just never seemed to be a real build up or stakes that made me care.
I appreciated not starting out on Krypton for another origin story. I appreciated that Gunn was trying to make a comic book movie. I just don’t understand why, unlike his previous movies, the overwhelming majority of characters here were one-dimensional.
It’s okay to have a Supes who is striving in every way to be a Boy Scout, but the execution here was poor.

When the director and lead of the entire DCU admits to having trouble “cracking the code“ of Superman, that doesn’t bode very well.
Seems the best he could do was basically insert himself wherever he could from his own dog to his very narrow view of what farmers in Kansas are like even down to the “hate“ he received on the Internet. Without that, he doesn’t know how to relate to Superman at all.
*DV snowflakes can’t deal with facts.
** Wow, to be so petty & embarrassed that you can’t even admit when you’re wrong.

Are you suggesting that people admit they were wrong for liking the movie based on your opinions?

No.
I can see that’s what some want to reply to, but that’s not at all what I said.

There’s no opinion here. I’m repeating what JG said himself.

This movie in no way did that.

But if the vast majority of viewers are pleased with this movie, doesn't that validate Gunn's vision? After all, the goal is to make a movie worth watching.
