James Gunn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he remains somewhat confused over the conservative backlash that erupted before the release of “Superman.” Fox News and other right-wing outlets branded the movie “SuperWoke” after Gunn went viral for telling the Times of London that Superman is an “immigrant” and “the story of America.”

“I’ve heard people say it was woke, and then I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s not. I am curious as to what in the movie is considered woke,” Gunn told EW amid “Superman’s” box office success. “I think people took something I said…The guy for the London newspaper. Originally, he said that [Superman comic creators] Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were the sons of immigrants, and they wrote Superman as an immigrant story. And I said, yeah, it’s a story about an immigrant, but mostly it’s a story to me about kindness, which it is. That’s the center of the movie for me.”

“That’s the thing we can all act upon, is kindness,” the director continued. “And so what does that lead to? Well, does that lead to the way you vote? Sure. Does that lead to everything? Yeah. Does it lead to how many people are dying from road rage? Yes. All those things are affected if people just start to value kindness. I mean, people did value kindness in the past. That was an American value, was kindness, and it doesn’t necessarily seem to be that way to me anymore. So that was always the center of the movie for me, and it wasn’t about anything other than that.”

I honestly think that some people, including a few who post here, consider ANY movie made today to be "woke". Period.

"Well, they made a movie. It's woke."

- Have you seen it?

"Nope, and I don't intend to. Not gonna give one cent of my money to them"

- If you haven't seen it, then how do you know it's woke?

"Just do. Clearly it's woke. If you can't see that, I can't help you."

- Umm... whatever, dude.

Who in the frick in the group has ever insisted all big studio movies are even good? Nay perfect? Come on. You make less sense every day.
You two watch tons of YouTube but not much actual content.

She will also be writing for the new Teen Titans movie. I hope it's much better than the live action show they put out a couple years ago. That shite was disappointing and a slap to the original show and comics

Funny, Mr. Terrific is widely considered the best character in the movie by “those people”

If you read the original article you can tell that the reporter was asking specifically about politics and the immigrant origins of Siegel, Shuster, and Superman. But instead of people reading and understanding that, we had a barrage of posters telling us that Gunn had made an announcement that the movie was an immigrant story, like he called a news conference to make the statement. Sucks that we can't just discuss films in here without people looking for excuses to steer the threads into their politics.

"Those people" will not watch the movie. How would they consider him the best?

You do realize I'm replying to a post where the hypothetical people have said:

"Not gonna give one cent of my money to them"

Instead of using the same copy paste attacks for every movie, try reading the comments of the people you’re preemptively attacking. And stop deflecting, you use a blanket statement then a half statement from one unknown person to justify it. It’s pathetic

I’m ready for the soundtrack to come out. The scene where the shaggy despot walks into his office, and then into the portal after the press conference has such a cool tune. Among other little moments.

ETA: damn, it’s out. it eluded me.
