All I can figure, is he surrounds himself with "yes" men. Most of these guys must. Look at "Love and Thunder" versus "Ragnarok." Utter dreck. He needs accountability and for someone to say, "this is going to suck. Do NOT do this song, movie, line, etc..."

With the comic book genre, yes, but he's made other films that are different so he is capable. I think he's really stuck on the GOTG template.

I saw some folks point out that the needle drops at least made sense in GOTG because he was wearing the headphones. He's using it as a crutch at this point and it doesn't make sense in these other projects.
I don't think he's capable of changing his tone

Well Batman isn’t even in this universe (which likely is also confusing for people not paying attention)
Still given the confusing nature general people have with the DCEU due to them continually releasing movies after that universe was DOA, you needed to come out of the gate swinging. Especially now when 100mil opening weekends aren’t the starting point for summer blockbusters anymore. You need to give the audience a reason to come out and now collectively yawn and say they’ll just wait for it to be on max.
They may have been better off making this a direct to streaming show

The biggest issue is ego. The first season of Peacemaker was good, and GotG was huge during the whole Marvel zeitgeist. It made Gunn think he could succeed with literally any character. But this is a milquetoast DC property. It was never going to do crazy money. No one asked for it. The last Supergirl movie bombed miserably in the 80s. Add the woke BS and alienating your core audience, and this is what you get. It could be a case study in what NOT to do.
Have to give Gunn credit at least this time for not putting his wife in this one. Though in truth, she would have made a much better older Supergirl.

To be fair, it was a legitimately bad movie; the character wasn't exactly given much of a chance.
I think part of the issue is that Supergirl has been given basically three personalities over the years:
1. Exact copy of Superman
2. Brooding, dark hero
3. Edgy, irreverent hero
It reminds me a lot of when Miles Morales was first introduced; outside of his very first issue his personality was basically a copy of Peter Parker's.
It wasn't until he was featured in Into the Spider-Verse that they REALLY made him distinct and unique.
Supergirl has a similar issue... if you make her too much like Superman, people will point that out; however, only Batman pulls of brooding, and edgy kinda went out of style in the 90s. Someone needs to come along and really make her truly unique to give fans someone to identify with; sadly, Gunn wasn't that guy.

I think the mistake was made when they made the character an irreverent drunken a-hole. I don't think the movie failed because it was woke, I think it failed because it was badly wriitten and directed. There's nothing wrong with being pretty and nice to look at. The best version of Supergirl thus far has been from the Timmverse Superman and Justice League Unlimited animated universe. They should have used that for the template.

The biggest avoidable mistake was NOT GIVING MILLY ANY frickING MEDIA TRAINING. She Zegler'd the film.
The lighting was horrible

Agree. While I don't care for Superman or Supergirl, i actually liked the version and limited story we got from The Flash. They should have expounded on that plot line.
