Stuart Fails To Save The Universe (SFTSTU) Now On HBOMAX

Fun watch. Not expecting much but pleasantly surprised.

I tried watching it, but the tall fat dude is such a horrible actor that I had to turn it off .

Watched the first episode last night.

It earned a few chuckles, but it's a big departure from TBBT in pretty much every aspect (style, pacing, etc). What they seem to be shooting for is more akin to a comedy version of Sliders. It could work but the dialogue is going to have to be far more clever and rely less on environmental gags (although the moth thing was pretty funny).

Kripke's character was a fun and somewhat logical expansion, but if they are going to keep him relevant he's going to need some wins out on the road (banging a hot chick, outsmarting some advanced system, etc). It won't need to happen every episode, but often enough for the viewers to be reminded of why he was able to take over (instead of just lip-servicing it).

Bert's character is going to be tough. Part of his shtick is to be dull and fairly monotone. I'm not quite sure how they are going to be able to change that to be more interesting to the audience without changing the character drastically.

Stuart is the hero who vacillates between being reluctant and being determined. The character is well-known to TBBT viewers and the actor has played him long enough to sell both aspects well.

Denise (once we get a permanent Denise) is likely to be the courageous one.


What my hopes for this would be:

-Kripke's character is the brains and the schemer. His desires are to get laid and take over wherever they are (often in that order, but maybe not always) often get them both into and out of situations (sometimes the same, sometimes not). They have to keep him around because he's the only one with enough knowledge in mechanical engineering (something added into this show for this reason) and physics to make the machine work correctly... eventually.

-Bert learns to emote a little more but becomes the thoughtful and reluctant character. His intelligence wouldn't be in just geology but also in maybe odd facts or history (or something else) to help balance him against Kripke in the brainpower department. He drops in dry yet potent quips but his reluctance to move onward helps as often as it hinders. Also, since the actor is such a big guy, him being the reluctant muscle would work well too.

-Denise would be the brash daredevil, charging blindly into everything with guns and firefights being her go-to (as with Bert and Kripke, this helps as often as it hinders). This would often put her and Bert into direct conflict which would lead to contests of one-upsmanship (especially in comedic quips).

-Stuart would be the balance of Bert and Denise while also being the anti-Kripke.

Interestingly, the premise for this show allows for changing up how all of those characters operate by swapping them in some reality or replacing them with completely different characters (well, except for Stuart lol).
