According to whom?

Pretty sure “dude” entered the mainstream in the late 70s, early 80s.

In combat. The army commissioned and used them well before then.

Also, if you need a laugh, go watch that music video. One of my favorites as far as cheesy ones go

According to my friends from Iowa that I hung out with back in HS.

Nope. It had been around since the 60's, and is even talked about in the movie Easy Rider, but it didn't become mainstream in places like Iowa until the very late 80's.

They've made a few other errors as well, like when Eddie says something is 'so metal' which wasn't an expression in the 80's. Black guys weren't getting girls' 'digits' in the mid 80's either.

I don't mean to say that it ruins anything. It doesn't, but it's the kind of thing that happens when the writers didn't grow up in the time period depicted.

Yep people then were as smart as you Sammy. You're open minded and intelligent. They're just backwoods idiots, right?

Why is that the same few posters are always the ones getting bent out of shape about this type of stuff?

Not gonna lie I felt bad for him. I mean the dude had his girlfriend die in a pretty brutal fashion at Eddie’s place then sees his best friend die in the same way while at Eddie’s trailer park. It’s no wonder that he went a little crazy there especially give the fact that Satanic Panic was a very real thing back then with DnD being the main target

It’s hard to identify when it’s organic and when it’s being shoehorned. Robin and Will are probably the perfect examples to be honest.

While i don’t like Robin’s character overly, it fits.l for the character and helped Steve develop some. It seems like they didn’t know what to do with Will so they just made him gay to score bonus points.

The Duffer Bros are definitely trying to check all the boxes. Gay, Lesbo, blacks, hippie. Just missing an Asian.

Its probably netflix policy, just likes its Amazon policy to have race/gender/lgbtq quotas. I even saw a "pro-abortion" scene in there when the doctor says to Eleven "SHE GETS TO CHOOSE! ITS HER CHOICE!". The language they used isn't a mystery, its obvious why they chose that specific wording. Who knows, maybe the Duffers had multiple edits with a few scenes devoted to whatever political climate might arise. It wouldn't take much, just add in a little extra dialogue, or small nod here or there.

LINK

quote:

To “reduce invisibility in entertainment,” Amazon aims “to include one character from each of the following categories for speaking roles of any size, and at minimum 50 percent of the total of these should be women: (1) lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or gender non-conforming/non-binary; (2) person with a disability; and (3) three regionally underrepresented racial/ethnic/cultural groups (e.g., in the US, three of the following: Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Middle Eastern/North African, or Asian/Pacific Islander or Multi-Racial). A single character can fulfill one or more of these identities.”

quote:

The Inclusion Policy further explains that each “film or series with a creative team of three or more people in above-the-line roles (Directors, Writers, Producers) should ideally include a minimum 30 percent women and 30 percent members of an underrepresented racial/ethnic group.” Amazon proposes similar quotas for each aspect of film and television production.

quote:

The Amazon policy statement includes plans to “give priority consideration to people who have been historically marginalized within the industry, including but not limited to disability, sexual orientation, religion, body size, age, nationality, gender identity, gender expression and people at the intersection of multiple underrepresented identities. This aspirational goal will increase to 50 percent by 2024. On creative teams with fewer than three people, we prefer that at least one Writer, Director, or Producer be a woman and/or a member of an underrepresented racial/ethnic group. A single team member can fulfill one or more of these identities.”

This pledge that the “aspirational goal will increase to 50 percent by 2024” is repeated numerous times. It is both menacing and empty in its bureaucratic-legal doublespeak.

What makes you think anyone is bent out of shape? Haven't you learned this is the new normal of film? Womens empowerment, LGBTQ, pro-abortion, pro-open borders, lectures on anti-racism, etc. etc.

Yeah lots of discussion on Will apparently, but he adds nothing to the series and him being anything at all adds nothing.

Watched the last 2 last night, damn. Can't even call that an ending. Lots of questions. Overall, great performances from Dustin, Steve, Max. Murray is somehow annoying but endearing because he's on our team. I thought the parallel 001 revelations were well done. This season was definitely darker, and in horror movie fashion there were a ton of spots where you are just yelling at the characters to move/do/stop/whatever and they just aren't.

So, what should we watch next? I thought we might fill the weekend finishing it, but we're done. Maybe I can get the older 2 kids on Archive 81.

I am not a fan of how the 4.2 played out.

First distraction for me was they went to a gun store called "War Zone" and came back with camping fuel, a couple knifes and a SINGLE shotgun. Seriously. In that period in time any store like that would have had a barrel of SKS's cheaper than that shotgun.

There was way too much time. It was like they had no incentive to cut anything out. They had an unlimited time limit so nothing got cut to make the overall product better.

So they have a flamethrower with a man in position and we are going to use a sword to fight the big bad in Russia?

So we have Molotov cocktails, that was a good weapon choice, but you don't throw them at soft targets. The chance of breaking hitting flesh is slim.

I didn't like that Max died then was brought back, but they might have some more story to tell since Max's mind wasn't there when 11 visited her in the hospital

Still, I would watch it again. I think they could have edited it better and made some better choices. I just like 4.1 better.

She’s less organic that Will.

Robin spend 90% of season 3 flirting with Steve. It was an absolute bait and switch. Even the characters in the show acted like she was flirting with him.

Will is a weird kid in a group of nerds and outcasts. It was hinted out throughout the whole series.

And Will is producing an interesting subplot and character development. It helped him relate to 11 and not just be jealous of her.
