Ive never been a big Star Trek fan, but I've enjoyed this so far. They keep referencing "the burn," so I guess I need to go back and watch Discovery now.

Nice fanfic retcon to tie up those loose ends. Guess we see which was the SUPERIOR race, eh?
Neither of the guys in the original had their hair color align with their skin color. Guess she's just some 'rebel' , huh?

Bored, catching a bit more. Can't believe it's still up for free on YouTube.
So the new ship doesn't even bother to taxi out of space port, huh? Goes right to transwarp or whatever right from the docks, huh?
The writing is , of course, crap. But I don't hate the actors. Except for the piggy who ate her com badge. I hope she gets dematerialized soon.
The Klingon is less cringy than I was lead to believe. And Tatiana's kid, whatever, is a bit of a Gary Sue. Stealing com badges at like 6? Now a master programmer / hacker by 21 - 22? OK.
He's got a bit of a Filip storyline going on here with being separated from his mother thou. (Expanse) About the same amount of time too. Wonder if they stole that idea.

so many main characters being unique. The first this, the only that, the sensitive and scientific Klingon and the Klingon/Jem'Hadar with the wry sense of humor. Seems like the writers are padding their choices in case they get more than one season.
The writers are self inserting themselves. All those quirky, awkward, super secretly special characters are them.

I think this show sucks so far. To me, this is just a parade of quirks and quips with bad acting and weird writing choices.
I’m not liking Holly Hunter in the captain’s chair as much as the idea of (younger) Holly Hunter in the captain’s chair. She’s too old and she doesn’t play the part with enough gravity. She seems weak to me. I actually like her as an actress. Just not how she fits the role on the screen.
I think the show gets the team aspect of Star Trek right. So I will give it credit there… but I just don’t like a lot of the characters here.
Maybe it will get better. I dunno. I didn’t like Discovery’s last couple of seasons, and this feels like it to me.

Replicants ( Blade Runner) and Synthetics (Alien) bleed white. The writers wanted a gruesome, life threatening wound but not the gore.
She looks like Jem'Hadar, but 'presents' herself as Klingon.

Good Lord that HR-lady lecture scene.

Which is like someone who has never made cajun food before thinking the key is simply "lots of heat".
Personally, I think it's probably a bit of both as they seem to be going into overdrive on the whole "diversity is our strength" mantra through the heavy emphasis on exotic characters.

Q: A fully functional Star Fleet ship, even after taking on pretty significant damage, can't go after a single escape pod?
Just asking, because I'd think an escape pod would have all manner of tracking devices on it, signals, lights, etc... but once the pod is away, it's 'safe' now?
Make it make sense.

We watched the second episode and I’m pretty sure we’re out. Some really great side characters, but the rebel cadet Forrest Gumping his way into creating a new Federation was a transporter leap too far.
The addition of the princess with the unique/dangerous superpower is just one X-Man too many.
Shoehorning in a pregnant humpback whale, Kirk Pavillion, way too fanfickish.
I might check back in when Giamatti returns.

I'm a glutton for punishment so I'll stick with it a little longer before I treat it like MST3K.
I'm not against the concept of a Starfleet Academy but this version is a sequel to the abysmal ST; Discovery which was an abomination IMO. With this show 1000 years into the future from the Picard era it's totally disconnected to the legacy shows. If they would have done this show similar to "Cobra Kai" where they effectively blended legacy characters with newer and younger player to past the torch I think it would work.
One thing I've always felt was the "star" on any Star Trek show was the concept of "The Federation". It provided a future to look forward to and those assholes nuked it like they did Romulus..
There's a few characters that appears to be decent but I'm still in a wait and see and so far it's trending down. We'll see.

Just finished
Holy shite that was bad.
Why put a dumb count with no concern for discipline as head of a school designed to instill discipline in the next generation of military and diplomatic leaders?
Soft, effete Klingon. . .unforgivable. Worf should be the softest a Klingon should ever be.
Jem'hadar are unable to procreate, how did the fat mutt get created?
Also, not sure if discussed, why are almost all the women fat slobs and all the men are in great shape? Who wants THAT future?
