Worldwide, it looks like The Rise of Skywalker will come in at $138 million BELOW box office estimates for its opening weekend.
It just might struggle to reach $1 billion if there's a steep drop off ala The Last Jedi next weekend.

I doubt it will drop as much as TLJ did (67.6%). It will definitely win the next two weekends, probably the next 3 before Bad Boys takes the top spot.

I kind of loved the movie. It has its issues, but it corrects a lot of the problems I had with The Last Jedi and even TFA.
It does feel like JJ Abrams tried to cram two movies into one, but having to deal with what he was left after TLJ, I feel like he did about as good of a job as anyone could have.

Where are you seeing this? I don't see anything listed for Saturday yet.
The fastest way to see box office news and estimates is from insiders on Twitter. It gets dropped there first in most cases. I don’t follow these people but I do follow box office reddit. The users there post everything really fast. Sort by new and there you go.

Looks like all those great tracking and great presale numbers were misleading. As I was saying in that old thread. They worded that shite shady, while never giving true numbers.

Seems like part of Kathleen Kennedy's plan for moving forward and beyond with Star Wars will be her retirement from Star Wars.

I posted this in a other thread prior to release. Looks like it may be trending this way.

For it to not break $1B, 25% less would have to see it than saw TLJ. Are there this many die hard fans like myself that will not do so?
TFA achieved $2B on the shoulders of getting fans back into SW and many of those same fans seeing it on multiple watches.
TLJ came in at $1.3B and I’d feel confident in speculating that hardly any of the same fans saw it multiple times.
Time will tell if fans are either holding their nose and seeing it or staying home. This assumes non-domestic is relatively unchanged, but given how Rose was portrayed I could see less coming in for TROS from China.

This was spot on. TLJ did $28 million in China on opening weekend there. TROS is doing less than half that in its opening weekend this time around.

Wow I didn’t realize it dropped off that much.

I saw it last night. It was ok and certainly better than TLJ.

But they haven’t said if it’s a trilogy or three separate movies, or anything yet. They’re going to announce the director of the 2022 one next month apparently.

Guess all of us that said we were not going to go see it no matter what stuck to our guns, myself included. I downloaded a torrent of it.
If there was a way for me to pay extra money after I saw TLJ just to take my money I paid for a ticket away from going towards that movie I would have.

I may be in the minority, but I "liked" it.
It wasn't great. It wasn't even that good. But it was passable - better than the prequels, imo.
And based upon the fact that TLJ left it absolutely nowhere to go, I'll consider it a win.
But overall the trilogy was a huge swing and miss.
My biggest gripe is that, it effectively felt like you ere missing an entire second act of the story, so this movie had to put a ton into it. So it felt like they were constantly encountering problems then having an immediate solution to move things along. The movie suffers from the timing, pacing, constantness of it.
JJ should absolutely just have done all three (if he was going to do 1 and 3) or at the very least should have had a heavy involvement with whoever did 2.

You’re not. Pretty sure that’s how most people fee about it.

I didn’t and don’t plan on seeing it in the theater. I may catch it when it hits Disney+.

Actuals will be about 2 million higher. At least it's some good news

That is my gripe as well. There is no Episode VIII. In Episode IX you got 1/3 of Episode VIII and 2/3 of Episode IX. Rian Johnson continues to subvert expectations.
