Well you won't know until you see the whole thing. Anything can be meh taken out of context.

Edit: how much does it take to bring the percentage up? There have been 8 positive reviews since the last negative one

I respect Rotten Tomatoes but the score being pulled down a little bit smacks to me of guys that held off to see how this played out and are doing negative reviews to stick out for click bait.

Happens with every good movie. The bad reviews on there for Guardians of the Galaxy are hilariously desperate for attention.

I agree, the one from the Spanish paper was hilariously bad and he rated it rotten simply because the movie wasnt his taste.

Another rotten review was from a guy that has only reviewed 3 movies EVER. There are only two rotten from top critics and one of them was a 2.5/4.

I predicted 87% building in critics that want to go against the grain to seem smarter than everyone else.

The fact that we are mid 90's means even those guys are all in.

I'm guilty of helping the click bait troll reviewers.

I've gone there and looked at what assholes didn't like Shawshank Redemption or something like that just out of curiousity.

Want to see hipster and pretentious? Armond White.

Check out his reviews for any of the best Pixar movies: Up, Toy Story 2, etc.

He doesn't review big movies anymore though.

I have seen most scenes with this character. i can't really make a comparison without it being a spoiler. Just didn't like it.

Well that's weird because Driver is usually considered a pretty good actor.

Rotten Tomatoes basically said "frick You" to that guy and no longer include his reviews, is my understanding.

Some of these "rotten" reviews do not seem bad to me, like this one:

quote:

Abrams is also too susceptible to the solemn self-mythologising that always threatened to spoil the fun of any Star Wars film. He hasn't made a terrible picture -- just a safe one, where the farthest reaches of fantasy feel merely routine.

or this one:

quote:

Somewhere along the way, Abrams begins delivering everything we expect, as opposed to those nebulous wonders we didn't know we wanted.

I don't know how RT determines if something is rotten or not. Some critics were harsh in tone but gave it 2.5/4, but that is considered rotten. There are a total of 10 rotten reviews out of 185 total, and I would say maybe 2 or 3 truly despised the film per their comments and rating.

I'm excited to see the film, but I must admit that I'm disappointed with what I'm hearing so far. Apparently the movie plays it safe and is just a rehash of a new hope. One review I saw is even calling it "A similar hope."

Those reviews are ridiculous. It's a Star Wars movie for Christ's sake. It's just supposed to be a fun film. That's it.

These movie critics have to justify their ridiculous jobs somehow, so they make it sound like they are pondering life's very existence with every review.

The purpose of being a reviewer is to let your audience know what's good and why and what's bad and why. While people have different views and opinions and that's a good thing, Armond was/is basically alone in how he views movies. So his audience was never those who agreed with him but rather those who wanted to argue/hate those opinions.

RT just gave people who hated him easier access to his reviews and while it drove clicks, it was getting out of hand both on RT and wherever his review was published.

People never understood that he's not a troll. He's been very consistent for decades. He does understand movies. His view was just too... unique is the nicest word I can think of.

I thought the same thing but I think it hits a little harder per a major spoiler I saw on social media yesterday and I no longer think the movie is safe. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm sure it's similar to ANH but I'm sure it's different enough to be enjoyable just like Creed. Creed is very similar to Rocky but it's just different enough to be a really really good film.

But stay off social media, I had a major part of the movie spoiled for me. I've signed out of Facebook and Twitter until tonight at 10.
