Most Star Wars fans were generally sympathetic to Boyega's Finn because it was an (maybe the most) intriguing part of the sequel trilogy, but got lost in the Girl Boss(tm) backwash. In hindsight, it probably was to placate mainland Chinese sensibilities. They have been fairly consistent with it, even with something like Black Panther.

Why did they kill off Snoke without ever explaining who he was or where he came from or what he was doing? Why did they turn General Hux into a comedic relief character? Why did they have Finn's big "hero" moment be killing a girl by hitting her from behind? Why did they feel the need to ruin Luke motherfricking Skywalker???????????? I need some Tylenol.

The character sucked and did not matter who played the character. There was a meaningless "mission" that added nothing to the plot. That is why the character and not the actress is hated.
She must not be a good actress bc basically all her work since SW has been mainly voice acting roles. I would be more upset about that than anything. She only seems to be good for her voice to be heard but for her to not be seen.
