That is going to take some mental gymnastics to prove that the set up for bringing back Palpatine and negating the fact that he was dead and that Anakin killing him fulfilled the prophecy, was "in plain view" in the previous 6 movies.
Well, the ST has fallen into the same trap as the pre-Disney EU. Why was Anakin killing Palpatine so special when not only does he return, but there are like a million Sith that come after?
They've tried the whole dark/grey Jedi thing with Kylo Ren and haven't really done a good enough job of fleshing out his character, and they murdered Snoke at the end of TLJ.
Adding Palpatine (retroactively or not) does help tie all three trilogies together to say nothing else good/bad about the spoilers I've read.

I get what you're saying, but the EU novels and what not have kind of always been held in their own category from the movies. Yes, they were mostly canon, but they still were kind of their own thing. I haven't read most of the EU books, but of the ones I did, Palpatine came back as a clone. Does he come back in others?

This was a colossal fail for sure.

I don't disagree that it ties this movie to the other 6. My point was more what it does to the story of the other 6. Like it or not, Anakin killed Palpatine and that is what balanced the force. That is straight from the mouth of Lucas. This movie is going to completely undo that, and at no point in the OT/PT was anything like that ever "set up" as the quote had mentioned. That's my point.

It doesn't add anything
This trilogy was purely made for the $$$

No; I think it was just that one time, but people keep trying to expand Star Wars past RoTJ, but all it does is muddy up the nicely tied together ending.

New leaked image. The leak is looking pretty close to 100% accurate at this point.

TLJ put a bullet in the head, TROS is the double tap. It's like losing a childhood friend.

Its Bodie yelling, "THIS IS MY CORNER (klack klack!!) THIS IS MY CORNER, YA HEAR!!"
and, well, we all know what happened after he yelled that.

Palpatine came back as a clone. Does he come back in others?
He came back several times in The Dark Empire trilogy and got killed once by every Solo and Skywalker as he clone hopped until he tried to possess Han and Leia's kid.
Most of the books dealt with either nonPalpatine renegade clones or Palpatine's secret projects that were either activated by Admirals, Grand Admirals, his kid, the Hutts.
The big take away from the books for awhile was there were two main traditions of Force users being the Jedi and the Sith.
Other Force user groups existed but had stayed out of things and we're usually just the focus of one book instead of a trilogy.
The other thing in the books was Luke had easy access to holocrons from old Jedi Masters and these mostly acted like Jor-El in the Fortress of Solitude.

Basically him responding to someone on Twitter that said he was underdeveloped as a character and the series kind of sucks. Someone posted screenshots

Star Wars is dead. Disney killed it.

This attempt to placate the fans will just end up with more disappointed fans and critics. TLJ really fricked things up.

If they throw Kylo off a cliff "never to be seen again," I may not even buy the film on blu ray.

Leaked pics getting taken down left and right on r/starwarsleaks
That pic of Palpatine blasting lightning up in the air in front of Rey’s thicc arse confirm it all.
I can’t figure out how to link pics from Reddit mobile but the leaks are fricking true. This is going to be a disaster

Also, per Lucas the Star Wars story was always the story of Anakin Skywalker. Now, WTF, it will be the story of Palpatine/Sidious? Great.
They have skullf**ked this series so bad.

It's just...disappointing. Bringing the Emperor back into the fray at the 11th hour is pure desperation. It destroys the character and nullifies the original trilogy.
The Skywalkers will be extinct at the end of this film and the only remaining known Force user will be the progeny of Palpatine.
Who the hell wanted this?
