Star Trek has its worst show yet incoming on Paramount+

I mean, look Star Trek has always had the makings of this, but rather than saying "Humans are normal and are just finding abnormal aliens out there with a variety of experiences..." it's just blending the line between normal Humanity and aliens. That's all.
And, to be clear, this look like it SUCKS for that exact reason.
DS9 is great because it was less about all the dumb social culture stuff (which were often horrible TNG episodes) and more about straight up politics and war.

The tan hetero couple will be the most f@cked up people. The girl in red and boy in red are your gender fluid characters.
