I actually think it may still be a good movie. Neither of my comments in this thread touch on the content itself but more of the reaction in general to movies like this which are given, often, regardless of the content.

This is supposed to be a very interesting true story. Hollywood will obviously add drama, but what Spike will also do is add his POV. That is usually what a director is supposed to do, so I can't fault him for it. But his POV is often skewed and radical.

The previews for this movie depict it as more of a biographical film of the black FBI agent that infiltrated the KKK and was elevated to a leadership position. So I don't think it focuses on the oppression as much as some others might.

Perpetuating the idea of a systemically racist police force that actively seeks out African-Americans requires a tremendous amount of ignorance to fuel.

Really? So the fact that African Americans are incarcerated far more often than a white person for the exact same crime (especially drug related crimes), you are just tossing up to random luck?

Well.... alright then.

And they also committ violence against whites at a rate 50x higher than whites against blacks once you adjust for population sizes. Drug incarceration rates are based off of economic disparities, not because judges don’t like darkies.

If so that’s cool. Still not my cup of tea but whatever.

That has to do with poverty rather than skin color. And there's no doubt AAs have a higher poverty rate. So it's not "systemic racism".

Agreed but it's interesting you replied to that post and not the one to which he was replying

With that being said, you are pretty much ignoring League of the South, NSM & the Jason Kessler/Richard Spencer/Jared Taylor following.

I didn't "pretty much ignore" anything. I stated a fact. None of those groups are the KKK and the KKK's numbers are small. I also said there are other hate groups that are muh larger.

I have no skin in this argument. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. It looks good and I like Spike for the most part.

Just arguing the ludicrous position that the KKK has any relevance to today. That concept is a media sensationalist creation.

Is this another erroneous "It's a black movie so white guilt critics are pretending to like it" claim?

It could very well turn into one of those. Some guys have difficulty in accepting the fact that people can have differing opinions that aren't driven by a race agenda or leftist politics . . . or "white guilt", for that matter. "white
guilt' is just a vacuous term used to dismiss another person's point of view.

Unfortunately, that occasionally is the case.

It's just an absolute slap in the face to reduce any critically acclaimed movie heavily involving blacks as "White liberal reviewers throwing them a bone to make themselves feel better."

The reviewers/critics set that standard, not the general public or even white males specifically.

I liked IW more than BP but that's an incredibly unfair comparison.

One movie is a self contained story that requires very little knowledge of the MCU while the other is a sprawling amalgam of multiple storylines from 18 other movies, most of which need to be seen to comprehend what the hell is going on. On top of that, it's only part 1 of a 2 part story.

How many of those critics do you think hadn't seen most of the marvel movies? Genuine question, I assumed they would've seen all of them, being certified critics and what not.

Probably several. Also, you have to remember that even if they have seen them, odds are they have only seen them once and moved on to the next film to review. I doubt many of them ever bothered to rewatch hardly any of the movies so they likely forgot most of what happened in previous films.

Even with something like Harry potter you had reviewers complaining they didn't know what going on as early as Goblet of Fire-Order of the Phoenix and that series only ran 8 films deep.

Most reviewers much prefer the Bond style of sequel where you don't have to ever see any of the previous movies to understand what's going on.
