Boo! 2 a Madea Halloween has 6% on the tomatometer. They must have forgotten to take their pandering pills for that one.

That’s a straw man if I’ve ever seen one. I’m not sure Boo! 2 a Madea Halloween takes itself as seriously or is as down with the struggle as a film like this.

Amazing how upset this movie has made people in this thread

Cast is awesome and looks really good, I’m excited for it.

It's kinda surprising a movie denouncing the KKK would have so many detractors.

I’m sure you said the same thing about Get Out and Detroit last year
Or Birth of a Nation the year before that

This thread is exactly what I expected it to be

People freaking out because it has a 97% on RT and thinking that means critics are putting it in the same level as The Godfather because they have no idea how rotten tomatoes actually works. There’s probably a new movie every week that has above a 90% now a days. The average rating out of 10 is a better measuring stick. This movie currently has a 7.9/10. The Godfather has a 9.3.....

And yes, it’s annoying when we see people praise a movie simply because of the race aspect. But it’s also annoying when the opposite side throws a fit because a movie gets good reviews even when it may actually be a good movie. I’m not a Spike Lee fan, but this one actually looks pretty funny

What makes Spike Lee ignorant?

His views on Hurricane Katrina
Definitely. In this situation, where we know every detail because we experienced it, it's easy to spot his incredible paranoia and ignorance, either willful or not.

However, "his name was Eddie" was a very powerful moment. I'll give him that.

There are probably 30 meth head retards left who seriously consider themselves klansmen. No one supports the KKK. And that’s why white people are tired of being beaten over the head with KKK and racism talk. It has no basis in current reality.

This movie might be good, I don’t know. But I believe the world would be a better place if people like Spike Lee would stop pretending that blacks are still oppressed and that “race” still needs constant discussion. Maybe this film doesn’t do that and doesn’t demonize white people, and that’d be nice. But his quoted CNN interview is not encouraging.

Really? Have you visited the Poli board lately or looked at recent events?

So he shouldn't make a film about something that actually happen because he's "pretending that blacks are still oppressed".

Uh, one of them(David Duke) that's featured in this movie very publicly endorsed our current president's campaign. And our president did little to distance himself from that endorsement. And while it didn't have the name KKK attached to it, what happened in Charlotteville last year had a very strong undercurrent of white supremacy and racism. So yes, racism does have a basis in current reality.

Didn't Trump say he didn't want Duke's endorsement?

Begging for what, exactly? A movie featuring predominantly black actors and a black director to win Best Picture? Because you're about 4 years too late on that one.

I think he was referring to either Bo Duke or Luke Duke.

He did accept the endorsement from Boss Hogg.

Maybe. I do know he initially claimed to not even know who Duke was, even though he's mentioned him in several interviews over the years.

My bigger point was the views the KKK had are still alive today in different groups under different names.
