David Chase Revives ‘The Sopranos’ With New Line Prequel Movie ‘The Many Saints Of Newark’

quote:

EXCLUSIVE: David Chase is finally ready to return to the New Jersey turf of his iconic creation The Sopranos. New Line has purchased the screenplay The Many Saints of Newark, the working title for a feature prequel of The Sopranos that is set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s. That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal.

The script was written by Chase and Lawrence Konner, the prolific screen and television writer whose credits include The Sopranos.

Even if he were alive, his character would be about 8 in the prequel. I never thought the flashbacks were that great and so i don't have high hopes.

Sopranos was so good because it Wasn't a 1940s-60s mafia story.. It was very very in the moment and really nothing like we had ever seen.. And obviously Tony Soprano at its center.

I love Chase and I will fight that it is the greatest drama ever... But I really don't have much interest in a Newark Mafia prequel set in the 1960s about race riots..

Time is the enemy here. If they pull it off with I assume different actors and actresses than used in the show flashbacks, then good for them.

But they probably should have tried to get this done a long time ago.

Great. Now hopefully Rian Johnson directs it.

Cautiously optimistic. Not looking forward to Livia though. Unless she looked like Raquel Welch and was a slut

Not a fan of this. Just finished my third rewatch of the series and love it. No need for a prequel.

They should start the movie in black, cutting to "Don't Stop" picking up where it left off in the final episode.
