To drive Dany to madness. That’s about it.

Why was he brought back to life?

Why was he sent to the nights watch now that the white walkers are dead?

Who said it needed to mean anything? It created major problems with Dany

And it ended up not meaning anything because she was still professing her undying love for him right up until the moment he stabbed her through the heart.

That's because Targaryens intermarry with people within their family. Jon clearly had a problem with loving Dany in that way because she was his aunt.

I was really hoping he would meet Val at the end there.

Point is nothing good will happen if you run off within a married man.

The one thing I really wanted at the end was for Drogon to show up at the wall as they were headed north and just be flying above them as they were headed out.

Given how they neutered the character, they should have just left him dead.

The point was that it didn’t matter in the end. He’s not a king. He’s a Snow at heart

To kill the mad queen
To unite the forces of the North to defeat the NK.
To lead the men passed north of the wall after all that.

Seems like a decent amount of things...
