The two reasons I didn't see the movie were disinterest in the Solo story and suckiness from episode 8
Exactly the same

The numbers are so low for “Solo” — pun not intended — that “Deadpool 2” is within reach of taking back the No. 1 spot in its third weekend. The R-rated Marvel film currently sits in second with a weekend total of $24 million. That would be enough to push it past the $250 million domestic mark by Sunday’s end.
Yikes

It had one of the best Memorial Day weekends ever.

Jesus Christ.
It can have a relatively solid opening weekend and still underperform. The opening for Solo would have a lot of studios drooling, but it's lower than initially expected.

I know you don't know what contradiction means...so, here we are.

You saying the Memorial Day release was bad:
And then it’s suddenly good:
Unless you look at actual number of tickets sold, it’s not even inside the top 25.

Memorial Day weekend box offices have trended down for a few years. There was no reason to think a side story would break the trend

Disney's biggest mistake was releasing in May, instead of December

That must be why $139 million is the most a Memorial Day weekend release has ever made [The 139 number is from 2007 which translates to 180+ in today’s numbers]. If this movie releases in December, it easily hits those numbers.

OK, let me explain this in a way that might make sense to you.
If I usually sell apples in December, and I can reasonably expect to sell at least 150 apples the first weekend I set up, that's what I should expect if I sell apples in December.
If I decide to sell apples Memorial Day weekend, despite never having done that before, I can really only guess as to how many apples I'll sell. If the most apples anyone has ever sold that weekend is 139, selling the 7th most ever at 103 apples is pretty good even though it's not as many apples as I'd hoped I would sell in that weekend. The guy at the next booth is only selling 50 apples and wishes he could sell 103 apples, but that's not good enough for me.
Understand now?

It's already made money, sport.

quote:That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works. In your comparison, apples are dollars not total tickets sold. That’s retarded. If you want to make a comparison like this, say you sold 100 apples and made $139 then 13 years later apples cost more so while you made $103, you only sold 50 of them. Get it?
If the most apples anyone has ever sold that weekend is 139, selling the 7th most ever at 103 apples
And don’t tell me viewership is down. More people go to the movies in May than they do December historically.

Ugh. It wasn’t going to make more money, troll.

#Solo drops big to $29.3M this wknd. Still #1, but stumbles by two-thirds in 2nd wknd. Domestic #boxoffice at only $148.9M. Not doing much better overseas. $30.3M intl wknd, $115.3M intl cume, global at only $264.2M. Needs to work hard to get to $400M worldwide.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
By all accounts Solo is a decent movie, with some folks saying it was pretty good. Disney just poisoned the well with TLJ and weeks of the SW team bashing their fans.
Shockingly if you tell your prime customer base that you think they are a bunch of racist, sexist, jackasses they won't be beating down your door to watch the next movie you release.
That alone is reason enough to sack Kathleen Kennedy and the other folks connected with the franchise. The first rule of selling is not to get into a pissing contest with the person you are trying to convince to buy something from you.

Just no.
This is a stupid statement.
With $250,000,000 cost and up to $300,000,000 worldwide marketing, the opening was a disaster.
I thought a pile of people might boycott week one then see it week two, but it is obvious with the dismal week two that people weren't interested and the big wigs pissed off the fan base.
Only a clown would dispute those FACTS.

Glad to see the true Star Wars fans stuck together on this one.
