So much for Variety's $60 million, this is from Hollywood reporter:
Oops.

quote:

Disney and Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story isn't finding much relief in its second weekend of play at the box office, where it may not come close to approaching $30 million for the Friday-Sunday stretch, according to early estimates. Some box-office observers show the standalone entry in the Star Wars franchise grossing $25 million-$27 million for the weekend, a precipitous drop of 68 percent-69 percent, respectively. Solo opened over the long Memorial Day holiday to a disappointing $103 million for the four days and $84.4 million for the three days. (The drop of 68 percent is based on the three-day number.)

Ouch.

quote:

This year, we’re left with holiday leftovers in Disney’s disappointment Solo: A Star Wars Story which according to estimates right now is grounded with a $7.5M second Friday, -78% which translates into a $26M second weekend, -69% for a running total of $145.5M. Ouch. End game stateside should be at $225M, and possibly about the same overseas for the Ron Howard-directed title. Yes, Solo is bound to lose money, however, whether it holds abroad this weekend will determine how much the hemorrhage is.

I heard they're pulling it from screens today and you won't be able to see it tonight.

And I heard Billy Dee kicked Childish Gambino in the nuts.

From Variety:

quote:

2nd Update, Friday Midday: The post-Memorial Day weekend at the box office doesn’t have to be a downer. However, none of the majors wanted to take advantage of that opportunity and slot an event title here. Some will argue that it’s an oversaturated marketplace, however, product rules. Don’t forget that. A year ago, Wonder Woman opened in this space and soared to a $103.2M opening and became the biggest grossing title of last summer stateside with $412.5M. She followed on the heels of the lackluster start by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which had a $78.4M four-day. Wow!

Ouch.
As of May 31, domestically Deadpool 2 made:
Domestic Total as of May. 31, 2018: $231,327,438

(that's 2 weeks)

Solo had a domestic total of :
$119,592,692
(with a week 2 projection adding 26M to bring it to 145M)

Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong site for number but damn.

Argonaut... will Solo pass DP 2 domestically? If not, why?

He kept blaming Solo's numbers on the may release.

Fact is, DP2 had a May release.

He can't just admit that TLJ did some severe damage to the franchise.

Lol. It had one of the best Memorial Day weekends ever. It also went from the cheapest Star Wars film to the most expensive. If they hadn't fricked up production, we wouldn't even still be talking about it. They also didn't market the film like it was the most expensive Star Wars film ever, which was a mistake. There are still commercials for Infinity War playing.

Fact is, there are a lot of reasons Solo underperformed other than the melt about TLJ.

It doesn't look like it.

Deadpool 2 is a better movie, it didn't have the same drama during production, and they didn't fall on their faces with marketing and the release date.

#Solo still #1 this wknd but stumbling bigtime. $8.15M FRI going to about $29M in 2nd wknd, down 66%. #Boxoffice total after this wknd will rise to about $148M, not even close to #StarWars standards.

The two reasons I didn't see the movie were disinterest in the Solo story and suckiness from episode 8.

If Ep 8 wasn't so horrible I'd have been in the theater. Went to the theater for Rogue One without knowing it would be such closely tied with Ep 4.

I'm sure a lot of other people were in the same boat.

Ahhhh aren’t you cute. There is a reason you are universally thought of the worst poster here and it has little to do with me or salmon.

Solo was actually a decent movie. It was just unnecessary.
