Who said I boycotted anything? I’ve made zero opinions in this thread but I suppose it makes you feel better to lump me in with people you disagree with. Disney (who is known for typically underprojecting) was saying 150 mill was possibly 5 days before release. I don’t know what more you want. 170 was a projection based on comps, history, 4 day weekend, and more weeks ago. People who do it for a living are making that projection. You act like summer, holiday blockbusters don’t exist.

Had TLJ not ruined so much in the eyes of many, 170 would have been realistic. That’s simply the truth.
Won’t lie I waited in line to see most of the prequels, have read a ton of books and took off early to see tfa, after I heard what they did to Luke I didn’t go see tlj till it was rentable, and I am not going see solo, will watch it ondemand. I think the problem is if you look at your base as guaranteed views and try to broaden your viewers you risk losing your base. Happens in politics all the time and has happened with a lot of movies... hello dc universe.

Most reasonable projections put it at $105-115 million.

I agree with that statement. They lied to everyone that TLJ it was a good movie and they’re staying away from exposing their lie. They can’t say it flopped because people are pissed at the latest SW product.

No one. That was a general statement. Obviously.

It's 2018. You should know how to use the Internet by now.

Keep fighting the good fight.
Maybe they will make you a SW that is even more left wing tripe.

Anyone who used the available data and honestly made that prediction should be fired. Memorial Day weekend box offices have trended down for a few years. There was no reason to think a side story would break the trend, especially going against Infinity War and Deadpool 2.
More likely, they didn't make those predictions honestly.

It wasn’t really going against IW at this point. Deadpool, yes. But it targets a much larger audience than Deadpool as well.

Infinity War made almost $30 million. That's not a small number for the #3 spot.

I saw IW on Memorial Day at noon and theater was packed. It has to be hurting Solo.

Yeah
Thought so
You're that much of a Star Wars booger eater that you'd make up articles
You rule

quote:Because it's a good movie that people would rather see twice than Solo once thanks to how shitty TLJ was. Same for Deadpool. I'd argue that if TLJ was good instead of bad (which, again, reviewers/Hollywood refuses to admit), then Solo would be in the 150-170 range and IW and Deadpool would have taken a much bigger hit.

Of course it's a good movie. My only point is that it ate into Solo’s numbers, and it did.
A lot of people didn't think TLJ was a shitty movie. Even more aren't boycotting Solo because of TLJ. Supposedly, that includes you. Disney's biggest mistake was releasing in May, instead of December, and I think they realize that.

They can’t admit The Last Jedi was bad, without criticizing its politics.
So they’ll continue to talk around the problem, and blame everything else.

Yeah, because so many movies bomb in May. Avengers has clearly suffered from this. Before Disney, that’s when all Star Wars movies were released.

quote:If TLJ was really good, people would be clamoring to see this movie. That was their biggest mistake. The release schedule doesn't impact movies people want to see. There were very few people who thought, "TLJ was so good that I can't wait to see what Disney does next with this universe." It was quite the opposite. And I'm not just talking about this board's reaction. That sentiment was very widespread.

Yeah, because so many movies bomb in May.

That must be why $139 million is the most a Memorial Day weekend release has ever made. If this movie releases in December, it easily hits those numbers.
