Any reason why they’d shower this thing with more Oscar’s than any movies ever had before?

That probably says a lot about other movies that have been released this year. Something has to be nominated. I don’t think anybody thinks it’s the best movie ever, but they have to fill out the nominations.

It's a good movie.

By no means great.

Never for a second did I think Oscar worthy while watching

But as an actual member and voter, I can assure you there is no agenda to reward something because of some sort of allegiance to diversity.

Didn't they actually change the rules to require diversity in judging?

I enjoyed Sinners, especially the ending and the vampire hillbilly musical trio.

I think the 16 noms are due to it doing everything at a high level

I enjoyed it too but the 16 noms are due to the majority all black cast. With the only white ppl being the villains.

there are no diversity rules for voting ... the Academy expects you to watch all films you are voting on, as it should be.

Let’s be honest. No reason to opine if this movie deserved these nominations or not. We know why it did.

pretty much every film that was released is technically eligible and put forward by the studios. Then that is whittled down to the nominated films in each category. Then final voting next month.

My top pick was a movie with mostly Koreans and subtitles. It shamefully got shut out.

There are 10k members and more and more from overseas, so the voting is changing. I'm sure the southern gothic nature of Sinners appealed to that voting bloc. But whatever .... 16 is a stretch. I agree.

I do think the Sympathizer controversy and his expulsion from the WGA impacted the film's chances.

It’s just from Dusk til Dawn in a different time period.

I loved it, but it's not 16 nominations good.

Elite production value and soundtrack, but storyline was blatant rip-off of dusk til dawn.

Definitely more worthy of its praise than black panther, however

If this movie got 16 Oscars, there must be a TON of terrible movies this year
