It was definitely a shell of itself when Erlich leaves. But it doesn’t suck. Went from a 9 to 6. The later seasons were still better than most comedy series.

Sorry for the bump but I've just finished season 5. I watched the first 2 seasons when it came out but then I lost HBO and didn't think about it much after that. We recently got HBOmax so I've been binging and this show is so great. I hate Iv'e only got 1 season left but I'm excited to see how it wraps up. I agree season 5 (the first without erlich) was a small notch below the othres but still really good.
As someone on page 1 said there definitely is a loop of "success, then problem, then anxiety/uncertainty on solving, then problem solved/succes, repeat" but I mean what show with an ongoign driving plotline doesn't do the same formula? IF they never made it past inception phase or if they were wildly successful from day 1 it'd be a boring show. Even though I know that basic loop is gonna happen frequently I still like seeing what new problems they'll face and what crazy ways it'll get solved.
Also this may just be me and maybe it's irrational, but does anyone else hate the big head character? I'm not familiar with teh actor so I have nothing against him IRL but man I can't stand the character and I can't really even pinpoint why.

I think the irony of Big Head being super successful and basically Richard being the failure is typical of how many things in life go.

I agree.
Many CEO's and politicians would fit the Big Head model of success.

It’s a very good show for most of its run, but the formula eventually becomes tiresome, and the show fails to stick the landing. The finale was panned almost as much as the ending to Game of Thrones.

I didn't think the show would recover from losing Peter Gregory. It did, but he was still the best part. RIP

The episode where they complain about a fictional character being black was the pinnacle of the show, IMO

damn! I hate to hear that. I've intentionally avoided reading anythign about season 6 becuase I don't want any spoilers but man that's disappointing.
On an unrelated note why did erlich get written out of the show? I assume it was a contract dispute or some other IRL shite like that but don't want to look it up. Again to avoid any spoilers ha.

You assume correctly. He almost blew up in Hollywood for a minute due to Silicon Valley and Deadpool, but then he made “The Emoji Movie” and crashed back to earth.

apparently he is a real dick to work with and his outside of work antics and behavior are just strange.

I love this show, but haven’t been able to finish it. Disappointing.

i'm fairly confident it's probably moreso the bomb threat he called into Amtrak than the emoji movie.
Miller was arrested on the night of April 9, 2018, at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York on federal charges related to a fake bomb threat made while aboard an Amtrak train. According to a Department of Justice press release, he placed an emergency call on March 18, 2018, and reported that a female passenger had "a bomb in her bag" while traveling on Amtrak Train 2256 from Washington, D.C., toward Penn Station in New York City. After authorities evacuated passengers and searched Amtrak Train 2256, it turned out that Miller was actually on Amtrak Train 2258, which was also evacuated of passengers and searched.[51] No evidence of any explosive device or materials was detected after officials stopped and inspected both trains. According to witnesses interviewed by Amtrak investigators, he appeared to be heavily intoxicated and involved, "in hostile exchanges with a woman who was sitting in a different row from him in the first-class car", and that he had been removed from the train prior to his intended stop due to his intoxication. On April 10, 2018, he was released on a $100,000 bond following an appearance at a federal court hearing in New Haven, Connecticut. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.[51][52][53][54] In September 2018, it was reported that Miller was negotiating a plea deal to avoid a trial.[55] As a result of this and the sexual assault allegations, DreamWorks Animation removed Miller from How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, with Justin Rupple overdubbing his lines as Tuffnut.[56] The preliminary hearing in the case, after several postponements, was scheduled for March 31, 2020.[57][58] In July 2021, charges against Miller were dismissed. Prosecutors said their decision was based on “expert medical analyses and reports regarding the defendant’s prior brain surgery and its continued neurological impacts, which cast doubt upon the requisite legal element of intent to commit the charged offense.” Miller agreed to “make full financial restitution for the costs of the law enforcement response to the false 911 call, and to continue a thorough and necessary program of Cognitive Remediation to render any recurrence of such conduct most highly unlikely”.[59]

I finished it last week and totally agree they failed on the landing big time. I get that the entire show was 2 steps forward 1 step back, you have to have that to keep the show engaging and keep the story moving. But for a series finale you can do anything! I'm not saying I wanted them to be the next Google where they've taken over the world and are all wildy successful more than anyoen can comprehend, that'd be a little cheap too I think. And the story they came up with of the tech actually being SO good, and SO advanced, that it must be stopped to save humanity..I actually don't mind that part either. But to then have most of the rest of the main cast still go on to be major successes and rich all except for richard, who for some reason is a professor, just seemed so odd. And this super mega powerful tech taht could kill the earth...he's still just got it laying around on a tbumb drive, that is now misplaced? That seemed cheap as frick. And not at all humorous. I don't see why Richard couldn't have just used his brilliant middle out tech/ideas to still thrive in the tech industry and do what he loves. Even if he was just a normal level coder at some company he'd at least be happy. And wtf is big head president of stanford? I mean I get that that's the joke, he keeps failing upward. But I mean it's not even halfway, somehwat, kinda remotely feasible at all. At least with all his other success/failures you could kinda buy into the logic behind why they happened.
And the whole Gwart storyline in season 6 was just so dumb, an entire waste of a story. I know it exists to show 1)jared needing a new project besides richard 2)jared having a spot in his heart for a foster kid like himself...but both of those could be accomplished in a different way than friggin gwart.

Gwart doesn't like Puddle of Mudd. She's a Linkin Park girl.

Season 1 is close to this funny the whole way.
It’s very good.

Yeah, but they fit a few other things in there too.

Show is brilliant. One of the best comedies ever.
The ending of the show sucked though. Was not feeling how they wrapped it up.
