Jeff Sneider ? @TheInSneider Dark doesn’t begin to describe SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO. It’s fricked up and I kinda loved it. Maybe not quite as much as the first film, but Brolin & Benicio are FIRE & Taylor Sheridan proves again why he’s one of the best writers in town. Not a perfect sequel but VERY badass

quote:

Steven Weintraub ? @colliderfrosty Happy to report 'Sicario: Day of the Soldado' is *extremely* well made and features fantastic performances from Josh Brolin and Benecio del Toro. As you might expect, Taylor Sheridan's screenplay is excellent. Really hope the film does well so they can complete the trilogy.

quote:

Gregory Ellwood ?? @TheGregoryE Saw Sicario: Day of the Soldado last night. It's FANTASTIC. It's doesn't have the visual splendor of Villeneuve's first film, but Taylor Sheridan's screenplay is SUPERB. Film has unexpected heartbreaking moments and strong performances from Del Toro and Brolin.

quote:

Mike Ryan ? @mikeryan SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO is, surprisingly, pretty awesome. Tense, gritty, and ends on a note where I want more. Benicio del Toro is amazing.

quote:

Anne Thompson ? @akstanwyck Taylor Sheridan’s sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado deepens the characters played by Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro in unexpected ways. Director Stefano Sollimo delivers. June 29.

quote:

Kristopher Tapley ? Verified account @kristapley 18h18 hours ago More It's gooooood. Or at the very least, straight up my alley. Sollima gave me the sequel I thought I didn't want. Wonderful storytelling economy. Wicked sense of tension throughout. Wolski goes to TOWN. Brolin/Del Toro step it up. Sheridan is a beast on the page, man. Love. It.

extreme praise for sheridan, can't wait to see it.

Just watched Sicario last night in preparation for 2 weeks from now. Sicario might be my favorite film since No Country for Old Men. I remember going to see it in theatres with 0 expectations and just knowing it was a movie about cartels. Remember thinking during that convoy scene into Juarez that I was watching an instant classic. Josh Brolin knows how to pick them. He’s been on a roll lately.

My kind of movie.

Didn't know they were planning a trilogy. Without having seen the second one I'm gonna go ahead and say I want a third one too.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like one I'll like. After these comments, I'll have to go see it in the theater!

Sicario 3 is in the works, presumably with Sheridan writing again

they may be eyeing a return role for Emily Blunt's character.

Relatively good reviews continue.

About 2/3 of the negative reviews I saw are pissed because it resembles "Trump fearmongering" or otherwise is focused on entertainment more than selling some stupid political messaging.

In other words, high hopes.

Just rewatched Sicario in preparation. Great to hear the good buzz. Really looking forward to it. And I hope Emily Blunt returns for Part 3.

It's certainly the Summer of Josh Brolin (<= minor Sicario spoiler). BTW, he has another movie coming out next week on Netflix:

The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter (trailer)

Should be an OB favorite.

I am pleasantly surpised to see it hovering in 70% on rotten.

I am not terribly concerned that vox and rolling stone don’t like balls deep action movies, a negative review from them on movie like this should be considered fresh
