Saw it as well, no where near as good as the first one but still a solid sequel. Much more intense than the first though.

SPOILER:

Did I hear that right that the CIA knocked off Benecio’s family? Man he is going to go on a rampage in Sicario 3. So fricked up.

The cartel killed his family. That's his whole motivation.

Saw it today. Even though I still think it's ridiculous to make a sequel to Sicario, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie and liked it a lot. Very intense throughout. Good writing, good acting, good directing.

Spoiler

Normally I would be upset by the obvious sequelsequel setup, but I know I won't be able to resist the next one.

How does that imply that they killed his family?

They killed his family to make him go after the Reyes cartel just like they killed the attorney and started a war between the cartels.

Again, where are you getting the info that they killed his family? Or Do you just think it’s a conspiracy that they haven’t covered in the movies yet?

Saying “it was hard to make him” can easily just mean how hard it was to get him on board to work with the cia

He was just some random Colombian lawyer, not a trained assassin. Why would the CIA want him to take out a Mexican cartel?

Well yeah he says he’s an attorney but he’s also a “prosecutor” for the Colombian cartel and is an assassin for them when his family is knocked off. I’ll have to re-watch #2 again.

I took it that way when they’re in the room at the hanger that brolin has taken out his family and was like holy shite we took out his family, wasn’t that enough?

I didn’t get any sense that they had taken out his family, nor was there any mention of them doing so. Brolin has grown to really like Benicio’s character and I think felt bad for him that they were supposed to “cut ties”

But if we find out in the 3rd movie that they did in fact kill his family you will look like a damn genius

well that’s the way I took it when they tell him to essentially cut ties and then with the end I saw it as Alejandro recruiting the young buck to help him go after everyone.

Him recruiting a 15 year old that's been in the cartel for a year to help go after an elite CIA hit squad is about as stupid as the CIA recruiting a lawyer to help go after an entire cartel.

With the 1 year between the very end scene, it is plausible that he could have found out that they had something to do with his family. And the more I think about that it’s not that far fetched of a theory I guess. But what is the kid really gonna do?

Blunt wants to take them down too and it’s rumored she’s back for 3.

Kid seems like a fast riser. Could be beneficial to Del Toro to get close to the top of the cartel, especially now that the CIA isn’t helping him out anymore obviously
