Its a basic instinct of all animals. They want to live.
So does iMark. He walks out the door he is dead. He never exists again.

I don’t agree with Mark D’s choice at very end, which isn’t exactly an unpopular opinion either.
Except for some here.

You aren't supposed to "agree" with it or "disagree" with it.

Exactly, I don't "like" it, but obviously that choice better reinforces the entire concept of the show and puts that conflict front and center for S3.
And for a show that probably speaks to real world problems/themes in certain ways (perhaps real vs. online life, the birthing cabins and surrogacy, etc.) - emphasizing that detachment between severed sides is obviously the most meaningful part of the show.
People like this, Leftovers, etc. because they're weird, otherworldly an they tend to make you "feel" something you don't feel from more routine series. Everyone had a reaction to Mark's choice - anger, annoyance, anguish for Gemma, whatever - which is what you want out of a show, no? The core idea behind the show creating a reaction in the viewer?

Which is irrelevant. Your agreement with a specific characters decision is completely irrelevant. You personally wanting a show to go a very specific way doesn't matter.
That character's decision was made. The discussion involves the decision within the context of the show's world, the characters, and how it will impact future seasons and storylines.

It’s about 50/50 which is exactly what they said they were going for.

Exactly.
Shows like this are not here to serve a specific person's wants or desires as to how it should proceed.
If it did the same people would say its boring and predictable.
The fact that the ending has elicited so many different reactions and discussions yet fits perfectly within the world and choices given to the characters is a testament to just how good this show is.
One thing I like about this show is it constantly doesn't give me specifically what I want, or what I think I want. For instance: I did not expect at all oMark to start reintegrating in Ep3. Threw me off I thought we might not get that for a season or 2. And then the very next episode Woe's Hollow.
Personally, I enjoy that.

If Mark leaves, isn't that kind of the end? What would be next? Fugitives? Would that even be interesting?
I thought it was quite possibly one of the best season endings of any show I've watched in some time.
Matter of fact, I'm satisfied & don't need another season. I'd like another season, but I'm good if there isn't one.

Oh no, I'm the watcher, I'm the DECIDER!!! MY OPINION MATTERS!!!

I think they chose the easy way out. And if they claim the fan reactions were 50/50, and that's what they were going for, then that proves it was a decision not based on any grand plan or idea chiseled out of stone.
And the best part? I'm not even claiming it was the wrong choice, just that I don't agree with it.
Don't burn too many vacuum tubes trying to figure that one out.

Just finished the finale last night. Great finale. One question I've had this season which may have already been answered, but how did Gemma get to Lumon? Did they lie about the car wreck?

I don't care. Still doesn't make any sense.

Good question. Implies that her whole death was orchestrated, and there was zero viewing of her body (or it was some sort of double) and Lumon planned Cold Harbor long before.
