Good stuff, thanks. I am very interested to see if we get more about her inventing severance

I re watched episode 8 and thought it was much better the second go around.
Cobel inventing the Severance protocol is a plot device I want to see much more of for sure.

Glad you liked it better second time around and absolutely, I honestly did not see that coming at all. I knew she was deep rooted and invested in Lumon/Kier and severance, but the reveal that the whole idea of severance was her initial thought was left field for me. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together with Mark and Gemma situation and how Helena is going to try to derail anything Cobel will plan.

Not trying to be a dick but how is that only just now obvious? The religious zealotry of the Lumon faithfuls was pretty obvious in season 1.
Eh... you could argue that the cult stuff early on was for the "benefit" of the innies. They dont know any better so you could establish religious ideology in them for the sake of the company.
Seeing outside world people discuss shows that its actually just a straight up thing

Her mother trying to burn her drawings probably motivated her even more .

Some of you people are typical modern Americans. You want to be entertained, on your terms, how and when you want it. Just shut up and enjoy greatness. You don’t see it that often.
oh whatever, pause Mark's already long reintegration story for 2 short episodes of back story.
I don't hate them in a vacuum but they'd have been better off in the front half of the season. I wouldn't be shocked if it was due to behind the camera issues with actors schedules
damn these dumb Americans who are too inpatient too wait 3 years for a story to move
the show is done well, looks incredible. Has a ton of resources that get put into it that most TV shows dont. That also might explain why apple wanted 10 episodes out of it, and the season is dragging at parts.

So Harmony is Lumon and they cheated her out of it.
We don't know who was driving up to the aunt's house as she drove away. That will tell us how important was her trip to Salt's Neck.

Just spitballing here, but my guess is that Cobel was working on something that might could heal her mother, and Lumen discovered it could serve other purposes (severed).
Also, Nurse Ratchet telling Gemma that Mark has remarried and has a child...I'm waiting for them to show her a video of Mark and Helena getting it on. Maybe even having video of Mark holding his sister's baby.

I think its obvious that Lumon recruits people to its cult through trauma. They produced ether as means for people to disassociate from their trauma.
Cobel imagined severance as a better means for disassociating. She hated working in the mill. She didn't want to get high, so she had to come up with a better solution, thus, severance.

I like it.

Cold Harbor will be severing from the trauma of losing a loved one. Gemma’s miscarriage, Mark losing Gemma, and even Cobel’s mother in the literal cold harbor town on the brink of death. I just don’t know what that means for Gemma when she goes into the door.

I think its severing from the experience of actual death.
Now whether or not Gemma actually dies in Cold Harbor, we shall see, but I like the theory that Mark is unknowingly working on killing his wife when he completes Cold Harbor.

I don’t get the filler, slow moving talk. We don’t know the story, where it is going, or where it ends. We may not yet know if the stuff is important.
I’ve enjoyed each episode equally. It is great television.
With a show where I know the story, say from a book like Silo or Man In The High Castle, it is very easy to see where there is a lot of filler. This show is different to me. Good original stories are the best.

Her aunt was somehow even creeper and even more fundamentalist on the religion thing. Absolutely wild.

yeah and if Harmony turns against Lumon, the aunt will be the final nail in that coffin. What she did to her. mother and her attitude about it showed Corbel how twisted they really are.

It needs to be said as well, even if an episode is “filler” (aka does not advance the main plot), if it’s good, why do I care? There’s not a single episode of this show I haven’t watch and said “damn. That was great, I need to rewatch this again” either right away or the next day
This is just a good show. They can do no wrong in my eyes. I’m here for the ride and loving it.
