Tea Leone maybe?

When y'all described her as Italian, I thought Marisa Tomei. Then when you went to Blond/Blue, I immediately thought of Tea Leoni, Edie Falco, or Laura Linney. Maybe even Elizabeth Perkins or Elizabeth Mitchell.

Kidman doesn't fit, from what I'm hearing.

In the books she is blond, marginally overweight, middle aged, and well dressed. The most important thing about the character is her intelligence.

I don't think Kidman is a good choice mostly because I don't buy her as a medical examiner or detective. Maybe someone like Sasha Alexander would have been a better option. Frances McDormand is a bit old for the part now but could have done it ten years ago

She remains way overexposed.

I got kind of tired of her a few years ago and she's still pumping out roles constantly. I like her ok and she's a good actress but her accent and those bloodshot plastic surgery eyes aren't something I want to see super often

We’ve watched 3 episodes and the basic story I like but Jamie Lee Curtis’ obnoxious character makes me want to turn it off and erase from my memory.

There’s 15 minutes of actual mystery and 30 of these 2 arguing.

Well, that was certainly a last final 8-10 minutes of Ep 8 TV GD

Agreed. Too much family drama intertwined with the investigation.

I like Jamie Lee's performance, but she shouldn't take up so much of the focus.

And I'm sure everyone is going to love the AI version of the lesbian niece's deceased wife. They are giving her way too much screen time.

Question: after Benton was sworn in as an FBI profiler, why did his partner tell him he was not allowed to share case information with his wife? Aren't they all supposed to be working together to solve the crime?

I asked my wife the same thing. His wife is now the medical examiner so why can’t he discuss the case with her? He’s in cybercrimes now but they had the victims phone. There’s a lot of things we keep assuming will be fleshed out later….if I can make it past the arguing and yes, the ridiculous AI wife.

Edit: I watched the scene again, all I can figure is the lady was working on a secret project

Started this last night but fell asleep halfway in. I like the premise.

Odd complaint is that why is the medical examiner the main one the press is trying to talk to? The actual detective and DA show up at the scene and the press is shouting at her to get answers. She's also there interviewing people related to the crime.

It's just odd seeing the medical examiner, who is usually behind the scenes/crime site being the one that is doing detective work and being the person of interest to the press on a case. Odd complaint I know

Used to love these books but stopped reading years ago. The miscasting is my first complaint. I don’t remember the sister much at all in the books but Jaime Lee is unwatchable to me. Benton was a huge part of the books but for the life of me, I do NOT remember them being actually married.

You may be too young to remember this show.

She used to seem closer to normal. She's gotten almost unhinged in both her acting and in her interviews.

If she was younger I would assume it was drug use

Jamie Lee is basically playing the same shitshow woman as she did in The Bear.

I thought the same thing. Exact same character.

That was somewhat recent (2007/2008).

That's been very recent that she's becoming a recurring character - within the last 5 years.

Cornwell used COVID to somewhat reboot the series. The book Autopsy (2021) brought Scarpetta and family to Alexandria, brought Dorothy in as a recurring character married to Marino, moved Benton and Lucy to the Secret Service, killed Janet and introduced the Janet AI program.

A 2nd season has not yet been confirmed, but they definitely set one up.

I didn't even realize she had written more books. Like others, I read all the older books and loved them. I don't remember the sister at all. I do remember Lucy. I agree that there is a lot of miscasting.

Huge fan of the book series. About 20 minutes into the first episode. It has my interest, but a couple of things are off with it.

And when did/does Hollywood stay true to the books that movies or series are made from. They love to take liberties with story lines and characters.
