How do they know it is based on real events? I thought Liv Tyler and the guy die in the end... couldn't they have been killed by the strangers?

"Inspired" by true events...

The director/writer had a cabin in the woods or something similar growing up and one night a woman came and asked muliple times for someone who didn't live there. That was the only thing that inspired the rest of the movie...

Just to raise the horror level, and suspense.

and i call bullshite.

all these movies say "inspired by true events."

guess what, star wars was inspired by true events. doesn't mean any of it was real.

lets do this. someone killed someone. i am going to write a movie about all these fricked up ways that it could have happened. boom "inspired/based on true events".

The Ring - This movie fricked me up the first time I saw it. My wife came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her with her hair all in her face doing that fricked up walk and scared the shite out of me.

I didn't think it was necessarily "scary", but it was a really good horror flick.

As far as scariest, Paranormal Activity scared me more than any other movie made in the last 10 years.

The first 20-30 minutes of Jeepers Creepers. After that, not so much.

The Ring and the Grudge creeped me out.

The end of The Mist was unsettling to say the least, but the rest of the movie was more funny than scary.

I'd say the Stangers, Amityville Horror, and the newest Halloween.....pretty weak decade. Guess I'll have to check out the Descent.

Event Horizon with a good surround sound was good.

It's a little outside the 10 year range, though.

Off the top of my head, probably Paranormal Activity. I find movies about ghosts more scary than anything else.

The Descent wasn't really scary...it was just incredibly bad arse and gory. Love that movie

I'm not a big horror movie guy, but my two favorite from the last decade were The Ring and 28 Days Later.

Is only used to add drama to a movie. In Hollywood terms, it ranks even looser than "Based on a True Story."
