yea when I was a kid in Louisiana I thought only rich people had 2 story houses but in the Midwest and northeast, 99% of homes have at least 2 stories and a basement even if the house is crappy and the family is poor

I bought my home for $120,000 and it is two stories. I wouldn't say having stairs are any indicator of how expensive the house will be. Some houses are just more vertically oriented than horizontal.

Dan was great. I really liked when the trans kid had to be driven to school and Dan runs out of the house in the background

This is actually a much deeper cut. There was a episode on the original run where DJ didn't want to kiss a black girl in the school play and it revolved around whats racist and what isn't, etc etc, well Geena was the name of the girl in that episode, ergo DJ ended up marrying her. #continuity

I'd forgotten about that. Good catch.

I remember seeing lots of the reruns when they were on. As much as I don't care for Roseanne outside of the show, the show hit on a lot of issues with some comedy and some seriousness mixed in like domestic abuse when Jackie's bf hit her and Dan wanted to make mincemeat of him.

Becky drove me crazy back then and still does. I've never found her to be much in the way of a good actress, but maybe that's because her character is extremely annoying.

Time to say grace. Jackie, would you like to take a knee?

That was the funniest line of the night for me. I laughed out loud. Otherwise, I didn't think the episodes were quite as good as I expected, though I love Dan.

The revival of Roseanne premiered to massive ratings Tuesday night.

The return delivered an incredible 18.2 million viewers along with an equally impressive 5.1 rating among adults 18-49.

According to ABC, this is the highest-rated comedy telecast on any network in nearly four years (since a premiere episode of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory from 2014).

So, yes, even bigger than NBC’s mega-hit This Is Us during any of its regularly scheduled episodes, where the weepy dramedy usually tops out around a 3.0 adult demo rating (the special This Is Us post-Super Bowl episode was bigger, but that’s to be expected).

In the adult demo, it also trumps Sunday’s blockbuster 60 Minutes episode which featured an interview with Stormy Daniels.

Also kinda incredible, given how ratings have declined over the years: Roseanne’s return was actually higher among total viewers than its 1997 finale 21 years ago!

I fully expected it to suck and I thought the writing would be awful, but the jokes were pretty on point. Goodman, Roseanne, and Laurie Metcalf still have great chemistry and timing. If they can somehow teach Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson how to act again before the next show it'll be awesome.

I always laughed at poor families living in 2 story houses
Depends on where and when you bought or purchased the house. My parents were teachers and built their 2500 sqft house back in the mid 70s for around $65K. It is worth about $180k now

Came here to post the same thing. It was like they never took a week off. It was spot on... classic Rosanne. I hope they keep this going for years to come.

I thought it was pretty stiff at least on the part of many of the cast, surprisingly Jackie, who I believe has always been considered a singular talent even apart from the show.

If that long! I made it half way thru. Canceled the series recording! Loved it 20 years ago, maybe it's just me that has changed

Just watched it and I have to say...they killed it.

I don't even like sitcoms anymore but this brought me right back to childhood watching television on the couch with my family.

I agree with the poster who said it was like they didn't take any time off at all...the writing, the acting, the chemistry always all there.

Damn I never realized the Scrubs girl was on Roseanne

Is that surprise? Wasn't it a very popular show back in the day that just needed to come to it's eventual end (unlike the ones today that they try to run into the ground). The biggest tell will be whether or not these ratings follow through as the season progresses.

They did. No idea who that is though. But they definitely say that they have four kids, and I don't remember there ever being a son named Jerry. Didn't they adopt David later in the series?

I caught the first episode last night. Still need to watch the second. The first was WAY too political for me, but outside of that I enjoyed it. I can do without them trying to cram as many SJW things into the show as possible (like the addition of a gender-neutral grandson and DJ having a straight up black kid...she didn't even look mixed ).

But all in all, I liked it. Dan and Roseanne felt like they didn't miss a beat. I actually liked the throwback jokes like Dan being dead and the two Beckys (with Elliott saying that Becky looks like her when she wakes up but before she puts makeup on). And Roseanne's line to Dan about how much he misses when he's "out in the garage drinking beer" was good stuff.

I'll definitely be watching for now.

My favorite line of E1 was when Rosey asked Jackie if she wanted to take a knee during grace.

I see people in the thread saying the second episode was better than the first. So that is a good sign. I enjoyed the first, even though it was a bit over the top in some aspects.
