Jerry Garcia!

The first was WAY too political for me, but outside of that I enjoyed it
it wasn't really political in the sense that they talked overtly about like specific stuff, really just service level stuff from the presidential candidates and topical news stuff. I thought they did a good job of dealing with the topics and not preaching

quote:

SJW things into the show as possible (like the addition of a gender-neutral grandson and DJ having a straight up black kid
DJ presumably married that chick he refused to kiss in school and they both enlisted in the military. not really an uncommon thing.

You'll see in the 2nd episode the kid isn't really gender-neutral, he's a boy who seems to like fashion/women's clothes and is too young to know what gender/orientation are. Also not an uncommon thing. And Dan and Darlene have a discussion about it that is pretty level headed and doesn't really try to convince the audience of one thing or the other except families are a mess and we love them anyway

I'll definitely be watching for now.
for sure, really brings me back to childhood

I see people in the thread saying the second episode was better than the first.
2nd episode was legit really good and really felt like prime Roseanne

I thought it was pretty stiff at least on the part of many of the cast
I thought so too. Especially the first episode. It seemed like Roseanne was just reading her lines...no real emotion behind a lot of them. Almost like everyone knew the rest of the cast was just speaking to set her up and then she comes in to deliver a punchline and does it somewhat monotone and/or deadpan.

Second episode was better, and it will be fun to see how many of the other characters from the old show make an appearance (I am pretty sure I saw that Johnny Galecki will be back for a guest spot).

They did. No idea who that is though. But they definitely say that they have four kids, and I don't remember there ever being a son named Jerry

They had the fourth child in one of the later seasons of the original series. Roseanne named him after Jerry Garcia who had just recently died.

I get it, and I get why they did it. But it felt overly forced and I hate that kind of stuff. I really liked Last Man Standing but they stuffed political jokes in too much for my taste. It just makes me feel like they aren't even trying to be smart or clever, and that annoys me. Like I said, it didn't turn me off the show, but I could definitely use less of it going forward.

Good to hear. I hope to watch the second one tonight or tomorrow.

Roseanne really resonated with me when I was growing up. I always loved watching it with my mom, and a lot of things hit home with me back then. I hope to get some of the same feels from it this time around.

They need to bring back Roseanne's mom who is literally 90.

I loved Dan's "haven't seen that show in 20 years!" Comment

Her mom was annoying, but Nana Mary was the shite.

didnt think id like it but was surprised how good the writing was.

i agree that the acting was wooden in the first episode, and man John Goodman is tough getting around. Has he gained most of his weight back? He got really thin

Good start, though. I forgot how much i hated Darlene. Anyone else think she looks like Corey Feldmans twin sister?

Agreed. Too bad she's not with us to come back.
