The entire theme of the movie is that all the sins of modern society most commonly associated with progressivism are really just victims of antiquated bigoted perversions of Christianity. But churches that disregard those teachings are good. This was displayed ham handedly in the back and forth between Wicks and Jud. Wicks general points in that argument were essentially valid but delivered as a villain, which gives away the writers intent.

The more I think about it, this is actually pretty spot on I will admit

But Daniel Craig was the brains in the movie. And he's a White Male last i checked.

But Benoit Blanc has the ghey. So he's allowed to be a good guy. Liked the movie fine. Also, the black kid was a villain, so progress for those who don't like woke-casting. Thomas Hayden Church very underutilized. The Eve's Apple metaphor was asked to do a lot of work.

But he was a thinly veiled archetype and criticism as well. Black republican who is simply a grifter and knows it.

Same as the writer. Douchebag who actually hates his right-wing followers more than anyone else.

Basically conservatives are either grifters or religious zealots.

And the character most exalted in this movie was a money grubbing, legacy hating, slut.

I know people tend to dig for "wokeism" in movies but thats not what this is. This is simply the foundational intention of almost every aspect of the movie. You simply cannot argue with these points. They were overt and RJ himself would admit to them in private im sure. It was a bad essay converted into a decent movie.

Was anyone else distracted by Josh O'Connor's ears? I have never seen someone whose ears were almost completely smooth on the inside

Of course, to be fair, there are thousands of people just like him on this website,

Brolin is pretty damn funny in the beginning doing his confession to the younger priest with his list of sins.....for the week

Loved it.
Same.

As with any good Columbo episode, the best part is the build up as you meet the characters. By the time Beignet Bond shows up, you're all worked up and raring to go.

I particularly liked Glen Close's Frau Blücher character.

Josh O'Connor was very impressive. He had to be so subdued and boring on The Crown.

Loved when the young priest is finally onto Brolin, and after hearing the older priest's confession he throws his purple stole vestment at him like, "here motherfricker, now it's MY turn to confess".

After watching this over the weekend, I enjoyed it maybe even more than the original.

The main part of the fun of this series / set of films is the discovery of the how and why and not just the who.

Sure, one could have predicted the "who" early on...but the real mystery was in how it was done, the way it was done, and everything that went into it that was unseen.

I have enjoyed all 3 movies, with 3 ahead of 2 - say what you want about how badly Rian fricked up Star Wars, but the guy can make decent films, especially Knives out movies - hope he makes more.

really like Brolin in this movie - the confessions were great - especially the part about the Cat Cafe

Ugh, worst entry in the series by far.

There were pieces and parts that were enjoyable, but overall it was a slog.

His character said this, but he was respectful of the priest, and the overall tone of the movie was respectful of religion and Catholic ritual.

This was another good knives out film. The church setting was well done and nothing in the film seemed like an attack on religion to me but im not surprised some people will attempt to frame it that way.

I wasn't offended by anything church related, I just didn't think it was a great movie. Nowhere near the first one for me.

Finally watched last night and agree with this more than I thought when I first read it earlier this week.

Brolin was an a-hole through and through but when he railed against modern progressivism, I didn’t disagree.

I didn’t see O’conner’s Brand of Priesthood as “progressive” but more caring for the whole flock as opposed to seeking power.

I enjoyed this one right below the first but Bigly above the second, but I do like the second fine.

Regarding Writer’s intent, my only adjustment would have been for Blanc to have stayed for Jud’s first mass, but to walk out early. While he still did think it’s all poppycock, he obviously developed a respect for true believers walking in faith with pursuing the Absolution in the climax.

I’m not seeking sentimental in my whodunits, but it’s obvious that Blanc was moved.
