I guess it was about as good as any other episode this season, but I thought it was terrible as a season finale. Everything the entire season was building towards was wrapped up in like the first 20 minutes. The bad guy we’ve been following as a side story the entire season ended up interacting with the main team for about a minute and ultimately had zero impact on the plot.

I’d watch a season 3, but I really hope they go back to a fish out of water Reacher wrecking shite in a small town.

The majority of books were that. Season was fine and I’ll keep watching but they should have done a few other books before this one.

All of the books are pretty adaptable so they could have just walked down the line.

One of my favorites was the one where it backtracks to him getting kicked out or the army.

I know they are killing bad guys but does it bother anyone that Reacher and pals are straight up murdering people?

Yes, it's stupid. The guy in the hospital was ridiculous. The first season was pretty entertaining, but this one was silly on many levels.

Enjoyed the season finale. It was a step down from season 1 but still a fun show.

Same. I know they're already filming Season 3, so hopefully we won't have a long wait.

Just took a late lunch and finished the final episode. That season was just as good as the first in my opinion. I like they did not give every character a boss character to kill in the end like Season 1. I cannot wait for Season 3.

Was anyone else totally confused who the 3 extra mercenaries that joined the fight were until the they finally pulled the guns on the reacher crew in the following scene? I thought reacher was fighting against them too in the complex.

Yes, I was until I remember that Reacher called the Senator in the previous episode. But honestly that did not dawn on my until they tried to kill Reacher and team and we got a full shot of their faces. Then I was like oh, that is the woman that made the guy say please.

Yep. They helped take the warehouse and free Reacher but then were supposed to he the clean up crew for the Senator. Reacher expected this, which is why he had called Homeland.

Yeah, I don't get how this was hard to understand.

Reacher had called the senator, asked if he had any former Special Forces folks on his security detail. He said yeah, a couple SEALs and (I think) a Green Beret. Reacher said good, I need them.
That's who those 3 were. They helped Reacher clean up the arms deal, but were supposed to then get rid of Reacher and his crew too. But Reacher had figured that was going to happen.

I enjoyed this season, even though it was campy and over the top.
I was waiting for Reacher to hit one of the bad guys in the helicopter with the gurney- with the chick still strapped on it

I was more concerned with how there was a female when it was supposed to be ex navy seals and a green beret...

I'll watch another season, but the finale was a bit over the top. Holding the stretcher with one arm for an eternity is just too far fetched. Make it half arse believable.

The problem im having is that season 1 was super dumb but awesome whereas season 2 is also dumb but… not awesome. I think maybe it’s because season 1 had a slight tongue-in-cheek element to it - like, yeah, we dropped Thad the uber military bro into the worst drawn caricature of a corrupt small Georgia town but just shut up and enjoy. By comparison, season 2 is trying to be more than what the series is; they’re trying to be modern day Mission Impossible when they already had the right formula last season.

I think you nailed it. I am totally okay with dumb action but the entire storyline this season and the bad guys was just not good enough.

This show is like a really bad version of Banshee

With Season 1, I've rewatched it a couple times. I have no desire whatsoever to rewatch any of season 2. It was a considerable downgrade in quality.

Hopefully, Season 3 will right the ship, so to speak.

Well said. I liked season 1 but just today gave up on episode 7 of this season. Cheese factor was too much. I thought the character was “smarter” detective/ military investigator prior to this season. Like a Lincoln Rhyme type. Oh well

Just watched ep8…. It was cringeworthy action normally received for the $.25 DVD bin at Walmart

What a fall from S1

The helicopter season was just too unbelievable. I get that it's fiction and I shouldn't nitpick but that was like John Wick 4 level of unbelievable nonsense.

They already announced that the 3rd season be a solo Reacher story. The 2 books that are in contention are Die Trying and Worth Dying For. I personally hope it is Worth Dying For. Either one will be good and back to solo Reacher.

I really liked the first season, but this season was way too bubble-gummy for me.

Die Trying

This would be a huge mistake and would probably end the series. This is a book about a right wing paramilitary group basically bent on secession, and the necessary political slant of a story like that would alienate most of what I would assume is the core viewership of the show.

Aside from that, the main villian is basically Jon Hamm’s character from Fargo, and there’s no way Prime will be able to cast and produce a role that would stand up to that, and would look like a B movie knockoff.

Worth Dying For is a really good option, as the setup of these books is usually an indication of how gripping the story will be, and it is a straightforward small town story of Reacher helping an abused woman and finding the husband is big into local crime.

I really like the potential of A Wanted Man:

quote:

In order to get to Virginia, Reacher hitches a ride from a group of three—two men and a woman. An hour behind them, the FBI descends on an old pumping station where a man was stabbed to death—the knife work professional, the killers nowhere to be seen. At the same time Reacher discovers the woman appears to be kidnapped and that the two men are the kidnappers. Reacher now finds himself tied to a volatile situation and it is up to him to try and defuse it.

A lot to work with there.

The other obvious options imo are Nothing to Lose, which is the quintessential small Midwest town corruption story, think Road House, which gets back to the S1 spirit of the show, and 61 Hours, which focuses on a manhunt for a killer after a bus that Reacher is on crashes during a blizzard in North Dakota, if they want the feel of a totally different setting from S1.

Echo Burning has some potential too, with an intriguing border town type setting that the book fell short on imo. It might actually be a good idea to take one of the less successful books and improve on it, rather than trying to duplicate one of the better books like Bad Luck and Trouble this season.
