But it is a shame the big reveal won’t surprise people. I was on a walk listening to the audiobook and literally stopped in my tracks and gasped, as I went in totally blind

SPOILERS:

A lot of fans of the book aren’t happy that Rocky is shown in the trailer, but I’m not sure how the studio could’ve avoided it, as he is a major part of the story. The first trailer just teased him, but you get a full on look at him in the newer trailer.

I haven't read the book but I honestly don't know anyone who has that didn't really like the story. I don't get that vibe at all from the trailers either.

The Martian was great. Artimis was terrible. Hail Mary is very good as well.

the Martian movie was trash compared to the book. You could say that abotu most adaptations, but what made it so bad was trying to make the commander of the movie the great hero by going out and getting Watney, when in the book she was one of a team that did it. The book's rescue was so much better and more suspenseful compared to the trash movie.

I expect they will trash Hail Mary too.

See, I haven't read the book. I see the preview totally different from the rest of you folks. You wouldn't understand it.

I feel like you're the only one, whether you've read the book or not, that thinks this trailer looks like a terrible Adam Sandler Netflix space comedy.

Because everyone else has read the damn book and their view is skewed by that.

Really just the last part with Rocky. The rest of the trailer, it didn't blow me away. Looks like it could be good, but I've thought that about other movies that sucked.

The Martian made $600 million, I think it easily beats that.

I think it's going to be a hit, also. But, I think "easily beats that" is a tad ambitious. I think the movie viewing industry has changed a good deal in the last 5-6 years. The billion dollar mark is going to be tougher and tougher to attain.

Exactly. I would be shocked if it gets anywhere near the Martians total

My daughter is going to see this one in IMAX. She said they shot the stuff on Earth like a regular film and the space stuff in IMAX. So if you are in that big IMAX theatre, will it just be part of the screen showing and then it will all fill up when they go to space? How will it look in a regular screen theatre?

I thought The Martian did a really good job of portraying the book in movie form. And what are you talking about with the commander? Every person on the team was involved with rescuing Mark out in space. it wasn't just her at all, nor was it portrayed that way in the movie.

Did we watch different versions of the movie?

My own personal anecdote. This is the first movie I've decided I needed to watch in the theaters since Oppenheimer. The last one before that was Thor Ragnarök. Before Ragnarök I'd see 6-10 movies a year in the theater.

I don't even know what Sandler space movie he is referencing

Edit: I just looked it up. I have never heard of this movie. I guess I could very slightly see where you are coming from (VERY slightly), but no.

I'd agree one of the better movie adaptations of a book. Did they leave a bunch of the stuff from the book out that I enjoyed? Sure. But you have to expect that when you screen time is about 1/6ths of the length of your source.

They ruined Mark’s drive across Mars by taking out all the suspense from the impending storm. He came up with that idea himself and didn’t need NASA to tell him to do it. Those instructions from NASA ruined the space pirate joke. Still a very enjoyable movie though.

I'm not sure about this movie. The previews have kind of turned me off. It doesn't look that good and it kind of gives me vibes of that horrible Adam Sandler Netflix space movie. Please tell me it will be better than the previews. I'm unsure if I will go see it at the threatre until I get some feedback.

I personally LOVED the book.

I thought the Martian was adapted very well from the book so hopefully this one is as well.

It isn't. Its not going to be anywhere near as focused on hard science or as much philosophy

Definitely a bit more straightforward

Removing the rover journey drama and adding Ironman are my only gripes about The Martian movie/book adaptation. Otherwise, it was a great adaptation, imo. I kind of get why they dropped the rover journey. It was already a 2 1/2 hour movie without it, and there wasn't a lot that could have been cut out before that. I'm still puzzled why they added Ironman.
