Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but one of the voices that Rocky and Grace pass on when they're deciding on a voice for Rocky... was provided by Ray Porter, who narrated the amazing audio book version of Project Hail Mary.

That's cool. I was actually hoping he'd get to voice Rocky for the movie.

The movie shows that the story of the book stands up and is good on it's own, but honestly Ray Porter deserves a lot of credit for the popularity of the book.

I am not a big audible guy but PHM was the first audiobook I listened to because of the "You have to do the audible, the narrator is so good" hype. And it's true, the book is improved by his reading and I honestly don't think the book would be as popular as it was if it wasn't for him/his narration.

I loved the book and read it instead of listening to it.

I saw a review just now that gave the movie 9.5/10, the book 10/10, audiobook 11/10

I have never done a single audiobook in my life but I’ve heard that it’s great.

People also say that Dungeon Crawler Carl (thread o the first page about it) is way more popular than it would have been because of the audiobook.

I have listened to both and that is a true statement for me, for sure. The guy that does Dungeon Crawler Carl is amazing. I believe he does the voice of every character for the first several books.

As good as the Project Hail Mary audiobook is, the Dungeon Crawler Carl one is much much better. The narrator Jeff Hayes makes it come to life. There's probably 200+ voices over the course of the seven books so far and I haven't heard a single voice that sounds the same. He overdoes Carl's voice a bit in book one but he's toned it down for the rest. I read all seven and I'm going back through doing the audible now.

I did the audiobook. Finally saw the movie (I went by myself for the first time in my life in the middle of the day, highly recommend, 10/10).

I'd give it a solid 8. You just can't capture the detail in a movie like the book (Martian was the same), but it's about as faithful as reasonably could be expected.

For me, it's a pretty good, not great movie, and the "bringing it to life" aspect bumps it a little higher than it would otherwise be. On one hand, a ton is lost from the details that make the story compelling. But on the other, I know it's impossible to carry over so I don't hold it against the movie.

I can understand someone not having any connection with the book thinking the movie was just pretty good, though.

Saw last night and 100% agree. Went in not knowing a ton and expected more space exploration (much like Interstellar). This was more of a kids movie with a Cast Away type feel.

Not bad, but didn’t leave feeling like it was some great movie. Wouldn’t watch again.

How do you walk into a movie 15-20 minutes after it starts? There’s no way I’m doing that. Either I get to see the story from beginning to end, or I don’t see it.

Do you also play on your phone while watching tv or movies?

Seriously. WTF?

As a huge Interstellar movie fan... this is exactly how I felt afterwards as well. I had zero expectations /knowledge about the movie going into it and completely lost interest when the great value Wall-E thing was revealed instead of some cool alien creature looking thing.

5/10 rating. Not sure why so many people are drooling over this slow, quirky, and simplistic knock off Interstellar/Wall-E dupe.

It's ridiculous, but back in the day that was how a lot of us saw films. You "went to the movies", walked in while the movie was already playing, hung around until the trailers and cartoon played, then stayed for the start of the film until someone said, "this is where we came in" and you left.

Theaters weren't big on cleaning the floors between showings, and they didn't care if you stayed to watch the movie twice or three times.

I got caught in traffic on the way to the theater and missed the first couple minutes. All I missed was him waking up and seeing his dead crewmates (so nothing that wasn’t in the trailers). I got there during the first classroom scene.

Ironically, I saw Interstellar 2x in theaters and missed the intro both times due to extenuating circumstances.

It wasn't till I watched it on streaming a couple of years later that I actually saw the opening scene and the drone chase through the cornfield.

Jim Dale did an amazing job with the Harry Potter books. Changing voices and keeping them the same all the time is amazing for the people that are good at it.

I'm probably older than you (59) and I would never do that. Maybe my OCD is the reason but if I can't start at the beginning, I'm not starting a movie.
