How does this ruin the original movie? Ive never really understood that line of thinking regardless of how bad the remake 30 years later is

Not interested.

If the younger generations didn't know the original existed, does it matter?

How often does this actually happen, though? When I say Red Dawn, does anyone think of the terrible remake? The default Ghostbusters is the original. Even a great remake like Evil Dead didn't disappear the original. About the only movie I can think of that legitimately erased the original is The Fly, but... Cronenberg's version is really, really great and the original is a B-movie, if we're being honest.
Oh, this remake seems like a terrible idea. Competing against the memory of John Candy seems like a recipe for failure, especially for a movie that is now sort of a holiday classic (it gets heavy rotation every Thanksgiving).

I was thinking The Thing. I didn't know the 1951 movie existed and would've never known if not for the 1982 version. They remade/prequeled it a decade ago with the same name and The Thing to me is still the 1982 version.

It's a relatable story that could be done with most anyone, so I've got no problem with it.
Of course, it could go horrible woke and be a miserable piece of garbage.
Hope they stick w/ the heart of the original story, if not the actual plot.

Aeysha Carr will write the script. Her TV credits include Brooklyn 99 and the upcoming Hulu series Woke.

Doubt we'll have to see how her new Hulu series does, but chances are there will be a huge "woke" aspect to the movie.
With that said, I know what I'll be watching sometime this weekend; been way too long.

I don't think it will necessarily ruin one of my favorite comedies of all time, but as we always say on this board, Hollywood is in dire need of some original thinking.

If there's one reference to ' white nationalist ' or some good ol boy police officer questioning them for DWB, then we know it's a hot mess. Almost think that Kevin Hart wouldn't go for that, but hey, a pay check is a pay check.

That's on their parents for not raising them properly. J/K...kinda.

Hard Pass. No need to mess with a classic. If they have to remake it, the Rock should replace Smith.

Which one is John Candy? They both seem like they’d be Steve Martin in this movies.
Hart can be over the top but he is usually the Everyman bad stuff happens to which is exactly Steve Martin in this movie.
And Smith is a bit to cool to play a lovable oaf like Candy was so good at.

quote:Shaq would be great in that role.
I'm trying to think of a black actor who can play the wholesome, but kind of a sleezeball (who we ultimately find out is hiding something) role.
Is Sinbad still around?
Whatever this guy's name is.

If you are going black, Funchess instead of Hart

I just don't understand what this would bring to the table or improve on the original.
Kevin Hart has a decent but predictable stand-up and he's not that funny in movies.
My only prediction is the comedy will be way over-the-top because of Hart.
And it won't be played straight - meaning there will be some political stuff.
