Completely impossible would be nice

As a huge Cillian Murphy fan, i’m happy to see he finally got a lead role in a huge blockbuster film. He’s now on the Dicaprio/Pitt level of superstar IMO. Cillian seems to be one of the few genuinely good people in the acting world, and he’s just simply incredible.

Amazing performance especially considering it was a 3 hour movie done in just 2 months and he was almost in every scene.

Had to be pretty exhausting and not sure if he lost weight for the role but
looked pretty unhealthy.

I think a large aspect of how good a movie is is how much it sticks with you after seeing it. There are some movies I’ll see that I think are good, my wife and I will discuss them on the way home, but once we get home they’re never discussed again. This movie has stuck with me, given me reason to do more research. Etc etc

Agreed. I can’t believe it has been a full week since I’ve seen it. I’ve certainly been thinking about it.

My daughter is a physics major at LSU right now. She loved the science aspect of the movie. We have been watching Oppenheimer documentary since we saw it and she is now reading American Prometheus.
Not to brag or anything but there’s not that many students in her major. Maybe 30. It’s freaking hard. Her schedule includes Quantum Mechanics this semester.
Me: Quantum what now???

Just got out of the 70mm showing.

First thoughts, the 70mm definitely made it feel different. It was dark like I remember film being along with the occasional splotches. Very cool stuff. Made it feel like a real “film” since it was a real “film”.

But as far as the actual movie goes, the first two thirds were very dialogue heavy. Like most have said, the last third was fantastic.

If you wanted a 70mm experience, you don’t have to get it for this movie. It’s better suited for a Dunkirk, Interstellar, TDK type of movie.

After a second rewatch in theaters I believe without a doubt Oppenheimer is peak cinema. It is truly an absolutely astonishing film.

This is arguably Christopher Nolan's greatest film (probably my favorite after a second watch). Every aspect of the film is just stunning. The acting, writing, pace, etc is so well done and works perfectly for how the film unfolds. The way each character develops and comes into their own and has their moment is truly amazing.

Cillian Murphy delivered one of the best acting performances I have ever seen. He deserves to be claimed as one of the best actors of our time, and he deserves his flowers for this performance. With that being said I was truly blown away by Robert Downey Jr performance as Lewis Strauss. He is absolutely remarkable in this role and knocks it out of the park.

I can keep going on but I highly recommend any film lover to watch this film ASAP while it is still in theaters. 10/10.

Yeah, to be honest I don’t know why IMAX is even necessary for the casual viewer. It’s not really the type of movie that seems to be drastically better because of IMAX, in my opinion.

Just saw it. Very good. It’s a bit complicated since it jumps around to different times, but I really enjoyed it. It shows how complicated the Manhattan Project truly was, and not just the science of making the bomb.

I think it's going to be a film that ages well. The more we watch it, the more we're going to like it. It's a lot to take in on the first watch. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again.

Anyone else a little annoyed by the constant background music?
Most movies use dramatic music sparingly, and not during regular dialog. This movie had music during many of the dialog scenes. I found it distracting. Many scenes seemed like snippets from a trailer instead of the actual movie. Maybe it’s just me?

I see most don't agree with you, but I do.
For all the hype, my wife and I found it pretty boring.

Please tell me Oppenheimer is much better.

Meh, 7/10.good film still but was a little let down after seeing this boards review. Towards the bottom of Nolan’s work imo. Acting was phenomenal, cinematography was great, soundtrack amazing, but idk maybe it’s because I already knew most of the story but it just didn’t grab me as a story. I also think Oppenheimer was a douche irl (he was likely a full blown communist) so maybe that affects me or I just don’t get it, but it didn’t seem to have some deep affect on me the way some in here have said they felt.

Did anyone else come out not knowing if they should feel super depressed or super excited to live their life? Maybe it was the edible.
not at all. Maybe if this had been about something 10 years ago. I mean if this shite made you feel that way, I discourage you from ever looking into the Cuban missile crisis

My biggest thing i didn't know was that we dropped the bombs AFTER Hitler killed himself.
you’re either trolling or failed us history. Hitler died in the spring followed by the nazi surrender a few days after. The Japanese fought on through the summer into august. The estimated death toll for taking the Japanese mainland were I believe 2 million u.s personnel and millions of Japanese lives. Even the women and children were so indoctrinated they were told to fight to the death charging with bamboo spears if need be

I got a physics degree. I took quantum mechanics with no other students. I just went to the professor’s office. Some lessons he had me learn would I could and try to teach him. He was either lazy or a genius because I truly took in what I was reading and the problems I was attempting because I know I had to be able to explain it.

The Cuban missile crisis wouldn’t have happened without the invention of nukes.

Either way, I was more speaking to the existential crisis the movie itself presents. The human race will ultimately end one day, most likely causing our own demise.

Either take this line of thought and become super depressed that world can end any moment and life has no meaning. Or the world could end at any moment and that should make us all strive to make each day count.

It’s a heavy movie that deals with a lot of philosophical ideas. Maybe it didn’t hit you that way, but lots of folks have expressed similar feelings which just speaks to the power of the film.
